First hunt with SEF

I hunted about 3 hours or so today with the 10 X 12 SEF. Hey, great coil. It was like using another detector when it comes to pinpointing. I didnt even have to use pinpoint... just move it to the front tip and it was there. The area i hunted was really tore up and trashy, but a good challenge. I found over $5 in clad.... a LOT of pennies and one Barber quarter, 1907. The coil seperated pretty darn well i didnt feel like i was missing many targets that were passing under the coil. I tried hunting with a pattern and with nails and crown caps disc out. When i had the nails and caps disc the machine nulled very little and was very stable with little to no noise or falsing. Pretty amazing since there were a lot of underground lines both electric and water not to mention a constant flow of traffic right beside me. It did seem to affect the depth thou since i was in auto sensitivity 28. Most of the stuff was say 3 or 4 inches.... except the barber it was about 7" down. When i used the pattern it nulled alot but i was still picking up good targets. The depth gage wasnt worth too much, but you could tell by the sound even with the gain on 9 which were surface coins. Ive not used the pro coil, but this coil is a welcome improvement over the slimline. I also noticed when in Cond sounds the dimes were easier to distinguish from pennies than in Ferr sounds. Hope this helps someone. HH

Congrat's on the Barber quarter, when you find Barber's you know you're in a good spot.Sound's like the SEF coil is a good one. I put mine on my GT today to play around a bit. Sure has a crisp clean sound to it. Looking forward to spring for a real test.
way to go Gary

hunting the woods in the cold wasn't really bothering me, but then we got all this!

points in your post which I have been saying for a while...so now you have experienced why I love the coil.

Quote #1---"The coil seperated pretty darn well i didnt feel like i was missing many targets that were passing under the coil."

Quote #2---"it nulled alot but i was still picking up good targets."

Quote #3---"you could tell by the sound even with the gain on 9 which were surface coins."

Keep playin'...and it will probably nab some much deeper coins. Congrats on the Barber by the way:thumbup:

You can bet it wont come off until it pays for its self. Any hunt you can come away with silver is a good hunt. Since i was in auto sensitivity I suspect all the ground EMI was affecting the depth... but surprisingly not the stability nor was there a lot of noise. I know there was a lot thou because my friend said he was haveing a real bad time with the DFX. There also was a lot of surface stuff passing under the coil making it difficult to hit the deeper targets. Maybe next time. Mascard... you have the coil and not tested it? Boyyyy if i get a new toy i have to use it.
