First hunt with the E-Trac

I was able to get out this morning for a couple hours to finally try out the ET. I went to an old school that was built in 1916, but is no longer in use. I've pounded this place with the Explorer using the stock, 5" 8" and Joey coils. I've taken quite a few silver dimes and a hand full of wheaties over a 2 year period from this place. I quit going after the finds diminished and only modern stuff was showing up.

I was using the 6" DD and hunting in the trashiest section I could find. I was very surprised that the first coin dug was the merc at close to 8" the tone was good, but the numbers jumped around quite a bit. All the coins sounded good, but the numbers weren't consistent. I'm thinking the trash was pulling both the fe and co readings all over the place. Not much, but, from a place I'd giving up on, I was very pleased. The oldest wheat is a 1916, the soil isn't very kind to copper here.

WTG Dan! Which bits of advise from the previous posts did you take into consideration first? I noticed you used the smaller coil and went for the trashy areas. Very smart move! Hit the same areas from different angles. There will be more there. Welcome to the club! Mike

Mike,

I used the FE numbers 5-18 and CO numbers 35- 46 plus, if the tone was consistent from both angles and the numbers hit in the range I dug it. I used multitones in conductive sounds with auto sens +3 in quickmask mode. High trash on, fast recovery, difficult ground. I swung faster than I should have, the wind was blowing and I didn't have much time to hunt. Not only that, I didn't have my pinpointer with me, it was in transit from Texas. It's a real B@tch not having a pinpointer, used alot of valuable hunting time looking for the target by eyeball. I'm co-dependent I found out :)
