First Impression Of The F75 Special Black Edition

[attachment 194071 indianbullet2.jpg]An 1888 Indian shot with a bullet........

I've been detecting for almost 40 years. I've had so many machines I can almost pick up anything and know the sounds. About 6 or so years ago (I forget) I bought a Fisher CZ machine. Before I was done with it I had enough nails to start a carpenter business. The thing loved iron and I hated it. And I said so. Swore I'd never buy another Fisher and went to another brand where I have been since. I have four friends that own an F75. We all got together last month for a two week trip to the UK. They used their F75's and I used my choice. I got smoked by all four of them. Thought maybe it was time to take another look.

I read 20 or more pages of this forum plus all the blogs and videos on Big Boys Toys site. I reluctantly decided to take a chance and bought the F75 Special Edition. I also thought since the machine was reputed to make a lot of noise I should have a new pair of tight headphones to go with it. Big Boys sent me the F75 Special Edition and a pair of Black Widow headphones which I got two days ago. Took it out yesterday for the entire day. Since a first impression can never be experienced again here is what I have to say about it.

I started out on a site that I know is very tough. It has a lot of iron bits, and pieces from the late 1700's on. I spent two hours there and found nothing. I suspected that the machine was going to be nice however, and decided to take it to another site where more modern items might be found in a more fair setting. Since I am brand new to the machine I thought it wasn't fair to try and start out at a professional level. The second site I went to was a yard where the house was torn down, it was near town, and the time period was presumed to be early 1900's. A fair shot to find some wheaties and mercs. I had searched this site on three previous occasions in the last 5 years and thought it was pretty clean but maybe the Fisher would get some deeper stuff. I didn't really think so however, since I could not believe I would ever leave much behind. That's what I got for thinking.

Check out the pictures. I got 2 jeff nickels, 1 buffalo, 1 modern quarter, 8 wheaties between 1909 and 1919, 1 1919 merc, 3 indians from the 1800's, a key, 2 toy soldiers, a rosette, a silver bracelet with initials, a civil war small buckle, a bag seal, 2 thingys, and a beautiful mint 1864 2 cent piece. And I have detected this yard twice before. Say what! I can't believe it. I dug not a single piece above 5 inches. The 2 cent piece read 10 inches on the depth meter and was a measured 7 inches below the top of the ground. I am blown away by this. This is KY dirt we

That may be the best review of the F75 LTD on this site I have ever read! Thanks for the useful info!!! :clapping:

There is nothing like the sound of a happy customer! Reminds me of the line in When Harry Met Sally. Who could not want to have what he is having!

Man! kydigger, that was a great post. I've had my F75 LTD for 2 days now and am well pleased with it. Your post just made me that much more happy with my new unit. Good luck this weekend.

Very good info and thanks for the post. CCH

Great finds great post, kinda makes me wonder if the se is a bit more tame then the ltd?,but then again you were runing at or near factory default, and that alone quiets my ltd down quite abit.I found your post to be very emperical....hh hunting rick in mi.

Thanks 4 the post
Gave me hope I made the right decion on buying 1 it well be here late tuesday 4/12

your long time experience detecting with various machines prepared you MUCH better to evaluate the F75 VS a newcomer just relying on others input.....which is wrong as often as it is right.
I run MY LTD pretty much wide open 99% of the time................with great results and little problems. The F75 will often get quieter in some sites running it hot VS tame. High sens settings actually improve resolution. Glad your doing well with it. Perpare to be amazed.........................

My intent is to tweak the additional features, including sensitivity, based on each of the future sites I detect. I am going back out tomorrow for the day and will probably hit at least three new ones unless the first one is a cherry. I will keep you posted. Thanks for the reply.

KY.....I think you have found out exactly what the bloggers are all missing, the truth!! I have owned this machine since January of last year and I couldn't be happier with my decision to own a Fisher (I have the LTD). Last year was my best silver year ever, I found 40 silver coins. 40 may not be a lot for some people but it was my personal best year, and most of them came from sites I hunted previously with my old DFX. This year looks like it could be a new personal best as I have already pulled 19 silvers and have not hunted a whole lot due to the long winter here in PA.

Congrats on the great finds. Don't be afraid to turn the disc down below 5....you'll open another whole new world!!

Dave

Man!!!.........I love the army men:) Finding old metal toys is right up there.....maybe higher......than silver. Nice job!!!!

Bart....you have to be feeling some serious satisfaction:)

My understanding is that if I open the disc below 5 the gain kicks up to a higher level. I assume that increases the sensitivity. How is boost mode effected by such a change?

Yep - I like em too. One from WWI and the other from WW2. Gotta love it when a brand new machine turns out this kind of stuff. And they were both deep along with the other stuff.

the F series machines are digital (as opposed to the older analog machines) and they do a lot of interesting things with the programing thats not possible with analog machines. They are getting better at hiding it....but its still there nonetheless. Where before when you changed disc settings you only got a decrease in performance.......which was nearly linear.................. NOW you likely to get any number of things.....DEPENDING on the specific disc setting. A setting of 5 in disc with the F75/75 LTD will result in a higher gain/sensitivity................and as you get lower on the scale it gets even better. Audio resolution increases with gain in the F series.................but separation/ depth and audio clarity increases with lower disc settings. Same with the tone options. Find a target with an iffy signal in a multi tone setting..and THEN listen to that same target in monotone. night and day. I typically hunt in 2F till I feel I've pounded a site....and then I switch to monotone and can get targets that were too 'iffy" to dig in 2F. I never hunt in multi tones or Delta pitch........as it tends to produce a lot more high tone iron falses. I can understand why some coin shooters like it.....but from a pure relic hunting standpoint (especially in sites where IRON may be a good target as well)...........multi tones dont cut it. I feel that anytime you introduce more processing to the equation (like tone ID) you decrease performance.
As for your question if the disc setting will affect things in boost mode.......I believe the answer is yes. You still see that boost in sens weather you are in BP mode or any of the other default modes.
The best way to really "see"it is to hunt a place where a bit of RFI is present. I try to hunt at "0" disc as much as possible.............but sometimes have to go as high as 6 to quiet things down in problem areas. You can clearly hear the difference both on target response and the noise (chatter) level when you go from 5 to 6.

Great post! I've said for years that confidence in one's machine means everything & since I will soon have a F75LTD on the way, you boosted MY confidence in my decision already! I really appreciate that & Great finds by the way!! :clapping:

I've been back out with it and the results are consistently above my expectations. You should have a real good time with this machine, but don't formulate any opinion until you have 10 hours or more at factory settings and don't mess with it until after the ten hours. That introduction will be worth it's weight in silver........................:detecting:

Great post M8,
I really enjoyed reading your first impressions. :clapping::clapping:
We've got a pair of F70s had them for about eight months now, and we love them to bits. :twodetecting:

Fisher do make tremendous machines.
:fisher::inlove:

make sure you try the all metal motion mode:detecting:

give it more than a 5 minute run and I bet you will like it.
