First Impression of the Omega 8000

My machine came today. Bart always ships fast. He doesn't mess around. That's why I do business with him. Upon signing for the package I noticed that the box was somewhat caved in on one end of it. I thought: "Oh my gosh, it'll be broken". But it was not. I put the unit together and stuck a Duracell battery in it. Went outside, turned it on, and immediately realized that I had a sensitive machine in my hands. It's more noisy than the G2, but no at all TOO noisy. It hit all the coins in my test garden,
Ground balancing is easy using the Ground Grab feature. The machine is factory programmed for three tones. Low for iron, mid-tone for nickles and stuff in the intermediate range, and high tone for dimes, copper pennies, quarters etc. The machine is so wonderfully light weight!!! And so well balanced. I think that I did good with my purchase. Time will tell. Saturday morning I'm going to a known Civil War Union camp that I have combed over and over with the Tek G2. Maybe I'll find some additional bullets ans buttons.
I have a 5inch coil on the way to me. Should be here tomorrow. Maybe I can post some good finds real soon with my nice new detetcor, Thanks for reading. Kevin

I think you'll find the Omega to be an excellent 'complement' to the G2. They share the same 5" and 11" DD coils, but the Omega will do very well in most hunting sites using the stock 10" elliptical concentric coil. I used to switch between my stock coil and 5" DD on my Omega, but I now keep the 5" DD mounted 'full-time' on the G2. It's deadly in dense iron trash.

The Omega will seem a little noisier in and around the house or other urban settings. You simply have to slowly reduce the Sensitivity until it is stable. No big deal. When away from any annoying EMI areas, and really most of the time, I run the Omega at '99' Sensitivity. I like the G2 and it stays in my personal detector arsenal, but the main unit to complement it is the Omega.

Why? Because I find the Omega to get better depth for most coin hunting, and I also find that it's more responsive, and gets better depth, on the silver coins and other higher-conductive targets I frequently am after. Just give that Omega a good deal of field use and I think you will also find that it has its own strengths and will be a great detector to have on your side.
