First impressions: Explorer SE Pro

Well, it's cool looking :yo: The first noticeable difference between it and the SE would be the word Professional in red script on both sides of the control housing. Next, you definitely stare at the new 11 inch coil. It's light, especially for an 11 inch DD that is waterproof! I weigh it at 20 ozs. That's 1 lb 4 oz. The new design has to be easy to pinpoint: most of the ground will be visible. It uses 3rd generation software. We'll see how that pans out. Can't wait to try it out, but that will have to wait. I'll try not to have any delays for our customers. Good hunting, David@Dixie

All Explorer SE's use '3rd generation software' so the only difference is the new coil and the writing on the control box.
I really think it is important that anyone already using the SE should know this.
If you have an SE you can buy just the new coil and you will have exactly the same spec as the new SE pro!

If you don't believe me then ask Minelab.

Not sure when the new coils will be available yet or the cost either. I also wouldnt be surprised if there maybe some changes too in the control box itself. Will find out when some of the expereinced people with the SE get to try one of the SE Pro out.

Although Minelab have told me there is no difference at all with the electronics or software to that of the SE...... I think they are just trying to bamboozle me into NOT buying the new SE Pro (British humour).

Sounds like they are following the Whites pattern of just putting something new out ... even if its just with a new coil like the MXT and DFX.

Dick Shultz told me the only change was the coil.

Hi Don,

We will have to see what some actually think when they can get out with them, maybe only the coil will make the difference in them or maybe there is more than just the coil that has been changed. Not saying one way or the other until others and myself can get out to try it. I would think Minelab is always trying to improve what they have and some of the changes may be slight or we cant see them, but they are there. We have seen this in the Sovereigns when they put that grounding shield in the control box that some didn't have and there was no mention about it anywhere until someone took one apart. Now from my letter i got from Minelab on the SE Pro says it is virtually identical to the SE with the addition of a new lightweight coil. It didn't say exactly the same, so there may be some slight changes that may improve the performance if Minelab thinks it could improve it or could be they see a problem with one of the components and change it to a different one which can make it better too. Maybe not either and feel that only the engineers that build them know for sure. All info is not pass down the line to the sales people all the times, some we learn by the use of the detectors.
We will just have to wait and see after they been out for a while and see if anyone notice a difference. I am hoping for a better SE like we all are, but it can raise problems with the resale price on the reg SE.

Rick

You guys just dont get it do you...
The only thing that has been changed is the coil and little writing on the casing. Thats it. FULL STOP.
You can think there are other changes as much as you want... but there isnt any.

I dont think it will effect the price of your SE if people know its just the coil that has changed.
But all this talk about new software and stuff is just rubbish.

And here in the UK (16th May);

But still there is speculation on non existent changes to the software and electronics.

Just my two cents, if Minelab actually changed something other than the coil on the "Pro" they wouldn't be calling it an "SE Pro". Their marketing department would be all over the brand new line of Explorer (insert fancy two letter abreviation here). It would certainly have an even more jacked up price. Common sense says if they made a change it would be a different model.

Just like the Excalibur 2, ....only changes were new decals and minor nothings. I am anxious to get a couple of those new coils for my SE's though. Any idea when they will be available to buy and how much?

As soon as My American partner finsihes the editing..... you seeing this PAT!! :goodnight:

I must admit Im really excited about this one.
New style... a lot of fun... and real finds.
Like Minelabs coil... this has been two years in the making too :twodetecting:

Bad spallers of the werld UNTIE !!!!

Good one Gary.....:thumbup::biggrin:

Nothing to do with the SE as i'm just beginning to use the XS and tickled pink with it's ability to find deeper targets using the factory settings in areas that that i gave up on and relegated myself to hunting older trashy sites with 2 filter tone id detectors using small coils for target separation and unmasking . I still love to hunt older trashy sites but the Explorer XS has invigorated my desire to hunt sites i gave up on due to a lack of coherent target response on deeper targets. For you guy's who hunted out your sites using Explorers for years on end I can relate to your desire for wanting more but just realize what you accomplished using the base Explorers and it's hard to improve on excellence. Whites may be doing the same thing with the DFX and MXT 300's. Just a thought. HH Bill

Minelab also make a Musketeer Advantage, and a Musketeer Advantage "Pro."
Identical detectors except that the "Standard" model comes with an 8" coil, and a
battery pack that takes only AA batteries.

The non Pro "Musky" can still be after marketed with the NIMH battery pack,
also any other "Musky" accessory.

The "Pro" model is the same detector exactly, but comes with a 10" coil,
and a NIMH battery pack with a mains voltage charger...
At a premium price...

As I see it the SE "Pro" is an SE like we all have, "with this new coil."
