Here is the first One Cent coin that I have found ever and it was with my CTX today. It was reading a strong 12-44 and at 5 inches. I have been finding a few rings and wheaties and lots of clad and can slaw, but this is my oldest find with the CTX and I am happy. I will post pictures of some of my other finds later. I need to do some research and find the best way to clean and preserve this coin. Any advise on cleaning old copper coins will be appreciated.

Congratulations on a beautiful Large Cent!
Olive oil is good but needs to soak for awhile. It can also darken the coin slightly. Use soap and water first and make sure its dry then soak in the olive oil. Do not do anything to a coin that is worth something!! Personally I think your coin is a nice example of a dug coin and would not clean. Your ground treated it pretty nicely. Sometimes I also melt candle wax onto copper coins and not only does it give it luster but also protects it and brings out detail. This also works for buttons. If the coin was real crusty I would say to boil peroxide and soak for a little while pulling out several times to check. After your satisfied with how it looks, then rinse with water, dry and then apply candle wax and rub gently with your thumb. This is something I do with allot of buttons too. Guys, thanks for all of the encouraging words and thanks also for the good advise on proper cleaning of a copper coin. Since this was my first one, I had no idea whether or not to try and clean it and if so, what to use without damaging it. I may just leave it as is, but we will see. This CTX sure is making a believer out of me and from what I am reading on here, it is doing great for everyone that is using it.
Thanks Grouser, I may try that yet, but just haven't decided to take the chance yet. I notice that you and lots of others have been having real good luck with your CTX. Keep it up. I learn allot from the post that you all put on this forum. I would have given up long before now if it weren't for the encouraging post on here.
