First outing in a month

Probably be the last in quit a while as harvest cranks up. Had about an hour before sunset. Decided to try an abandoned railroad siding that used to have a depot. Been gone since the 1940’s.
To say the area is trash infested is an understatement. Over the years I have only been able to pick out a barber dime, token and few cents. Meager as they were finds dried up years ago.
Area is carpeted with railroad spikes, plates, j-channel holders, nails, large bolts, nuts and coke from the steam engines.
Was able to pick out a 1928 wheat cent, 1901 Indian Head cent and 3 SOO LINE bag seals. Areas was also overgrown with weeds and grass so was swinging the coil at least 2” off the ground. Think I will head back again once harvest is over.

That IH is in great condition!! If you need help, let me know 🤭🤣

Indians and in some respects wheat cents that are from native sod like this site are usually in good shape. Cents from farm fields with fertilizer applied over the years are a crapshoot.
Still learning the manticore for sure. After years with the etrac my brain and senses are in tune with it. Can be reasonably sure what I am going to unearth with probably 80% certainty. But I know I was in some respects cherry picking. So with the manticore I have to keep on my toes to ferret out those signals the etrac missed. Therefore, most all the signals so far are not “pure”.
Getting a little better. Need at least another 100+ hours to become slightly proficient for sure. With cents a solid tone(at least one way) with numbers in the 60’s and touching the centerline are promising. Both cents smeared up from the center line to the ferrous line. Once I removed some of the junk small iron bits I got the round smear on the center line and solid repeatable tone in low 60’s from multiple directions. Just takes time and patience.

I think that was pretty darn good for a shorty hunt on a spot that you’ve hit before.

Manticore is still a little itchy to me.
Had a perfect 70's.
Can't remember exactly. Last year.
Flat dead on the center line.
No swishing up , down, or sideways.
Rock solid signal.
Thought for certain it was a silver dime at 6".
Come to find a Perfectly round ball of can slaw at 3". I mean like a marble.
Though that would fool most any machine.
I guess I'm at that old age where I want an image of exactly what's in the ground.
My hearing suks anymore.
Can't get up and down as often.
Tired of digging trash over 50 years.
I want a real ground penetrating like radar.
Maybe a mm wave machine.
They use those at the border scanning vehicle's.
Showing exactly the material, size, shape.
With an AI showing a picture of it from a memory of everything Ever found.
I guess I just wanna find that one Gold coin I've Never found.
Or am I having another bad dream ?

I hear ya. My body makes creaky noises as I rise and fall and my mouth utters some words to match. The manticore is aptly called the “beast” because it seems hard to tame. I am a new borne infant with it. It does seem to work for me in my sites that have been pounded. Having said that I long for that unmistakable signal that screams silver. Like a 12-46 on the etrac that makes your heart skip a beat and fills you with euphoria like a kid finding his first treasure. I have yet to experience that with the manticore.
There is something exciting about learning something new and the challenge of ferreting out finds in a field of iron. A feeling of awe when you have a spoil pile of iron bits and about to give up and fill in the hole. Then your pin pointer sounds of on an Indian head cent in that pile of trash. But it takes a lot of up and downs and patience to make it happen. As I age that is becoming troublesome and frustrating. Willing to give the manticore some more time to learn and become more adept at using. I think it is a keeper. Time will tell.
