First outing with SEF..:detecting:

:usaflag:started out on the slow side..in 2 hours I think I had 1 wheat penny. This site has produced some nice finds for me in the past, but to be fair , I had pounded it over and over last summer, because I had found what I believe were 2 coppers about 5 feet apart!! Not to mention all the people that have hit this park consistently from the 70's to the present. So frustration was setting in. I also tried some new settings from others mentioned in Andys book. I wanted to try Mike Moutray's first, because I felt it would be the easiest to adapt to for me. so I did alot of back and forth, stop and go. I was trying to compare target responses, then dig. I liked his settings and it really cut down on the noise , but I kept going back to ferrous,AM. This particular area isn't too trashy, so it was bearable for me. I really want to try those settings in a trashier part of the park , and I think I will next week. After about 2 hours or so, I moved over about 50 feet to a section I know i had hit over the summer, but decided to try it at a different angle. I started making some nice, fairly deep finds right away. after about 10 or so wheats, found my first silver at about 8 inches,a Merc dime 1925. Then an Indian penny, cant read the date yet, than another Indian, a buffalo nickle..so the finds were coming..Its strange how after a while, you almost feel like you in a groove, and you know your going to find stuff. You start feeling confident..alot better than I felt when i first got there!! In one hole, there was a penny on top of a large nail, and I had no problem deciding to dig. Solid signal with a slight bounce to the left.. thanks to minelab!! A few minutes went by, then I got a real sweet high tone..bouncing along the top about middle to right. It read about 8-10 inches. I pulled a nice 6 inch plug, stuck my probe in the hole and it rang out high..couple of inches later, out comes a sweet barber dime..I went maybe 5 feet, and i get another hit about the same depth, but SOLID to the right..now my heart is pumping!! I pull the plug, and a few more inches, and I see the side of the Quarter..please be seated!!..lol..Barber quarter!!..now I was having fun, but it was getting dark. I'll post the indians and buffalo after i clean them up for you guys..also found a girl scout pin..Its hard to believe that the girl who wore that pin, probably has passed away from old age many many years ago! sorry i got so morbid at the end there.. soon someone will find my pocket change and be saying the same thing about me..!! HH everyone:usaflag:

To soon for me to give an honest opinion yet Rich..but like i said, some of those targets were deep..maybe thats why I didnt pick up on them last time i was there, or maybe i missed those 15 spots:blink:..lol..so far, so good. I will try again next week..stay tuned..HH
