FIRST TIME OUT WITH MY NEW E-TRAC

oldpropguy

New member
Well I received the new e-trac late Friday from UPS. First off I would like to thank all that gave me their insight and tips on putting an e-trac together for the first time post. I got it put together Saturday late morning, It took me that long because I read the

manual from cover to cover before hand. I'm a slow reader. It's my first metal detector so I wanted to at least think I had a little knowledge of the machine before I went out. Needless to say at the park I went to I dug a lot of trash. I did manage to find 2

quarters, 3 dimes, 1 nickle, 6 pennies. All clad. I have so much to learn on the machine. I'm going to hit the park again today and try the Sun Ray X-5 coil (if it's not raining). I used the default coin program with the stock coil and I am going to do the same

with the X-5. I hope to hear a more defined signal from the X-5 but I'm not really sure what to expect. Hope to add to this post tonight with what I found (maybe silver). I should say I have metal detected 35 years ago with a Garrett that had a 3x5 box with 2

dials on it attached to the shaft. With all the technology in the the past 35 years that has gone into metal detecting I'm new to metal detecting as it is now.

HH to all that get to go today.

good luck with it and if you have any questions just ask.

The X-5 is one of the very best coils anyone could ever have for the Etrac. You will be amazed at how many less signals you will listen to. All that will translate into many more finds in a trash laden area.

You will love it!!

Jeff

Well I went out today for about 5 hours, the X-5 stayed on the arm for about a half hour. Boy do I need more time to process the good sounds. After I put the stock coil back on it became a little easier for me. I got all clad 3 quarters, 5 dimes, 4 nickels, 8 pennies, and one restroom token. Also dug up the trash, the park is a little cleaner for the next guy or gal. I've been told the more you practice the luckier you get. I'm going to hit it again tomorrow.

Congrats on finding your first coins! That's the first step toward finding your silver =) I'd stick to the coin mode and run auto +3 for a while till you get used to it. If you're running a higher manual sens you'll get a lot more falsing. Keep us updated

Sounds like you are doing just fine...I am always on the lookout for those 12-8 targets...That is where most of the gold rings I air tested came in, but so far they have all been foil, or bits of can slaw...

Happy Hunting,

The X5 comes into it's own when the trash is so bad you can't separate the good from bad or you suspect the trash is hiding the good stuff. Work it slow and try it with ttf. It takes some patience but you can sort through some serious junk with it.

Using the smaller x-5 will increase your learning curve. Learning in a target rich environment is not an easy thing to do.

Keep swinging that machine, you're going to really love it after you've put some hours on it and start recognizing the sounds you're hearing. HH and Good luck.
