First Two Days With The CTX-3030.....

Okay, I got the CTX on Friday and took it out for the first time on Sunday for three hours; my hunt was in a Town park. I hunted in the "Standard CTX Coin Mode" and the first two hours I dug every target and recorded the ID numbers and the pulled target. I pulled twenty five pieces of trash and I believe twenty four coins. Among the pulls this day were two wheats, one of them was 8" deep 1930 with two nails in the same hole offset slightly and above the wheat and to the left. The last hour I only pulled ID numbers in the 38 to 46 range.

Today was the second hunt with the CTX, I chose to hunt a school which was built in 1961; I hunted for two hours. Today I used a program called

Today I used a program called Gonehunting's Combined - Ferrous/Coin with No Discrimination" program. I only pulled the ID numbers in the 38 to 46 range. The best find was a '45 merc and a '56 wheat.

Both days I pulled nickels which I usually do not ID that often with my SE Pro, but, my experience so far is that the CTX does not go as deep as the SE Pro on the same property. Maybe I need to adjust some settings on the CTX to get it to go deeper, I hope so anyway. The 8" penny on day one was the exception because everything else on both day one and day two were maximum 5" with the average I'd say 3"

Congrats on finds the first couple times out. Always good to find silver. It isn't a bad idea to duplicate someone elses programs. But just because one group of settings is good for one part of the Country doesn't mean they'll work well other places. I'd encourage you to try some of the other settings available on the CTX 3030. Especially if your not beating the depth of your SEPro, because I know it can do it. If you dug one wheat at 8-inches, there is no reason you won't dig more if you pass the coil over them. One question I have is, where were the nickels coming from on day 2 if the only targets you dug were in the 38 - 46 TID range? HH Randy

Sorry, my bad.. One nickel came in at 12/13 and the other one at 12/14. I did keep a record of my digs for both days so I can compare and record numbers. On day 1 they also came in at 12/13 and the other one at 12/14. So, although it was separate locations, the numbers came in exactly the same.

You are finding targets that were apparently missed with the SE Pro at those sites so you are seeing some benefits with your CTX. The deeper targets will come. I too found many shallow targets that myself and others using E-Tracs just flat out missed. I sure can't explain how silver is missed with the SE Pro or the E-Trac but most CTX users are finding this to be true. I mostly hunt in ferrous coin combined and auto +3 and have found some very deep targets. The CTX likes nickles and lead bullets as well. Deep targets seem to come along a lot more often with the CTX and you will find your share. Congratulations on your new machine. HH
