Fisher CZ-21

Anyone still using the Fisher CZ-21 to water hunt? A friend of mine has several, loves them and does really well. A few days ago we were at the beach hunting the dry sand, I had a great sounding signal from my Equinox and since he was close by he listened to it with the CZ. He said that he wouldn't dig it but out of curiosity I dug it and sure enough it was junk. I started detecting in the mid 70's as a teen on and off when machines were simple, I am struggling with technology today with settings and sub-settings, I find myself drawn to the simplicity of the CZ.

Ever since my CZ20 died (no longer ground balances and lost depth) and First Texas stopped their low cost conversion to a CZ21, I stopped using that CZ. It paid for itself many times over. I still break out the CZ6a for wet sand detecting. I've got Excals that I picked up used for good prices and two Impulse AQs that I use. All of them fairly simple to set up.
CZ's are great detectors, even if a bit on the heavy side by today's standards.

All CZ's are not created equal. I would not buy another new one at this point. Only way I would own another CZ-21 is if I could test it myself because I've 2-3 that got very poor depth. I sent 1 in to fisher and there was no depth improvement and it was not calibrated right. I've moved on and much prefer the Excal. Only Fisher I still have is the original impulse for water hunting.

Use whatever works is my theory, I agree that these new detectors have to many options and clause more confusion than help.
I've got my F5 down to where I feel confident with it and it's reliable, it does what it's supposed to do , detects metal.

Like said above, use what works for you. I'm still using my Dinosaur.. The Excalibur. I may miss a few of the smaller golds but I still do well with what I have.. a 32 year old technology🏴‍☠️

Always fancied trying the CZ21.........i had a whites beach hunter 300 id and that was the best beach detector i ever owned......dual frequency and concentric coil but in all metal mode that thing went deeper than my mates Excals and the three lights still gave an indication of what was under the coil. Many never got on with them but it was a fabulous detector. If im not mistaken, the CZ works on a dual frequency with a concentric coil??........thats sort of why i was interested in testing one out......same sort of operation as the BH300id.
I'm using a Sovvy GT with a Nel Tornado coil now and an Xterra Pro with the 15x12 coil...........both doing well for me at the beach, particularly impressed with the pro,but i would swap them both for another BH300id.Just sbout to pull the plug on a C Scope cs4pi too........just to give me an extra option when things get really quiet on the beach.

C Scope cs4pi
Only reason I have not gotten a CS4pi is that the box is not rated for going for a swim. Thought about getting one and seeing how it could be made water proof enough, but I have too many projects already. Sure seems to be a very affordable pulse induction detector with a lot of good user experiences that have been on various forums.

Yes bud,i often wonder why CScope didn't just make a waterproof box from the start.......every detector made specifically for the beach should have a waterproof control box.Shouldn't be very hard to put it in some sort of waterproof housing though.......the earphone plug might be the hardest bit but i'm sure that can also be overcome with some thought.I've been interested in this detector for ages but never enough to buy one, after a lot of recent research i don't think i can hold off anymore.👍
