Fisher F-Point Pointer

New member
Looking for some input on this pointer....just getting back into detecting and ran across the F-Point but can't find many reviews etc. Any help is greatly apprecated!

God bless

It's not worth the powder and lead to blow it up with. My brother got one and gave it away, and the guy he gave it to still didn't get a good deal.

One of the best is the Garrett Pro pointer

If you want something cheap and still works pretty good, try the Cen-Tech from Harbor Freight for under $20.

I bought an F2 package from Bart at Big Boys and I ordered the Garrett Pro Pointer also. I didn't even turn the Fisher pointer on but it literally felt like a toy compared to the Garrett. I put it on Ebay and got almost $40 for it so that helped with the cost of the Garrett. If you want a cheap one get the one from Harbor Freight, if not get the Garrett. When I first got started I must say I thought it was crazy to spend that kind of money on a pro pointer. Now that I have some hours of swinging and digging in I can say I would be lost without it. It is not 100% necessary but it is worth every cent. There is a reason these things cost over $100 and many online retailers are on backorder, they are that good.

Looking back at the days before I bought the Garret Pro Pointer, I just laugh at myself for needlessly toiling away in the dirt searching for a target. I use an F5 and it gets a good lock on targets and I can almost always put the Garret right on the spot and dig up the good stuff instantly. With the Garret, I also present myself as a "professional" as someone who can recover targets in parks, playgrounds and sports fields without leaving the place looking like the set of Caddy Shack! And this is how I present myself to ask permission to search an area as a person who uses very good equipment. And that has allowed me access to some very nice places. Get the Garret Pro and you will understand.

If its FREE, POST PAID and comes with a couple of good 9 Volt batteries then your not going to get ripped off to bad.
My brother is right, I gave the one away I had and the guy wanted to pay me for the shipping, I couldn't do him that wrong LOL!

The guys are right...the Garrett is the one to buy. Hands down. If you want to pop for the price of $127. However, for $30 on Ama*zon, you can get the Zircon Metalliscanner. Gets same depth as the Garrett. I have used both. Far better than the Cen-Tec for depth & durability. The big downside to the Zircon is its wide scan head and has to be held at a precise angle while in hole, or you get false positives. Have to have a good size hole to get it down there. Does pretty good on dirt out of hole.

You have to touch the metal object with it for it to buzz. So, if you are stabbing clad, and have a little hole reamed out and somehow get the target turned in such a way that you cant feel it with the screwdriver anymore, or are not sure if the target is the metal one your detector sounded off on, or if you just hit a stone or something, then the slim stem of the F point goes in the hole and will tell you if the target is there or not...I use it maybe once or twice a month in this situation, usually when there is pea gravel mixed in with the soil, and its tough to tell when you hit the target with the screwdriver. It works acceptably in this circumstance. I can see a need for the Garrett if a guy is digging big deep plugs.

The F-Point is a short range pin pointer and if you remember that and use it as that it is a VERY handy tool. No it is not as nice as a pin pointer that costs over twice as much and has a 2 inch reach advantage. The Harbor Freight pin pointer does the same job for about half the price. I like the F-Pointer better, but it is twice the price of the HF unit. You don't NEED a pin pointer at all. Sometimes you may want one. I usually carry two- a Garrett and a Fisher. Whatever helps me recover fastest and neatest is what I want at my fingertips. The Fisher gets ripped a lot, I think unfairly. It is what it is. :surrender:

It's best used as a back scratcher or a doorstop.

On there best day you can get a 1/4" off the tip!
The battery holder isn't really a holder, its just a rounded out hollow in the handle and the battery just flops around in it!
It best suited for a Dollar Store bargain clearance bin!
Its made in china for an extra item for the company to toss in the box with a new detector, so they were made to give away!

The Harbor Freight one would be better but it loses sensitivity in colder weather.

Well after all the input I picked me up a Garrett pro pointer. Figured might as well get the best instead of wanting it later. Thank you all for your help and input!!!

God Bless

Next question, please.

SunRay for me only because I dont like to mess with having to keep up with a handheld. The Garret has some high reviews, I am sure you will enjoy it.

I have a new one that I got in a detector package sometime last year. I don't even remember what it came with now......wait.... now I do...just had to dwell on it for a couple of minutes.

Not quite sure why they even had it made and put their name on it. It doesn't compete with anything currently on the market and its a little embarrassing for Fisher fans.

I personally don't have any use for it but I keep it around as a loaner for the kids.
