Fixed the snag problem on my 11" Pro coil

Took the SE w/the Pro coil out to a stubble field today and it snags on the stiff upright stalks of mowed hay when trying ti pinpoint. The stubble gets caught in the holes in the bottom of the coil on the center bar. When it does, it acts like a pole vaulter. Lifting the coil up at the center of the swing and letting it down on either side. I took a piece of thin plastic from hard package you'd get from a store and cut it to fit. Then glued it n place with plastic plumbers cement. Never to snag again.

commission lately as far as detecting goes due to infections in both ears and don't figure I need to make the problem even worse wearing hot and sweaty headphones on my sore and swollen ears. I should have modified my pro coil while I was being lazy saturday but I'll get to it eventually this week. I got my 12 X 15 SEF coil in last week and still haven't had a chance to try it out either but hopefully by this weekend I can take care of giving the two coils a few spins around the woods and fields and maybe find a relic or two. HH and good luck with your newly modified Pro coil!!
 
will use some pcs. of styrofoam strips inside the holes in the braces so as to not have to use as much silicone or epoxy and add much weight to the coil. I will just have to take my time so as not to make a big mess while filling them holes up. :biggrin:
 
I thought you could put plastic like Bob did and cover the coil with the bed liner that they spray on for trucks,It would stop dirt and water from getting in coil cover too.Just a thought.You can roll it on you dont have to spray it and it would fill the small holes too.
 
The apoxy will eat the foam and if you add more weight, you might as well buy a heavy solid coil to start with.
Keep It Simple. Of course it's your coil.:cheers:
 
You guys are going to have that thing weighing more than the 1050 if you aren't careful.-----Scott, you can get that bedliner spray in small spray cans at some auto repair stores and maybe some hardware stores. Just make sure it doesn't have a "metal base" ingredient in it. I have used it to spray the bottom of 2 or 3 of my coils-to protect the bottoms from wear instead of using coil covers--it works really good for that purpose. But be careful and know what your spraying on the plastic of these expensive coils.-----Del
 
JEFF & MARIA---You're sure right about the weight of those two coils being the same.----I weighed the X-12-19oz----I weighed the Lightweight Pro-19oz. (even steven). And the X-12 is 1" larger diameter.
 
I use both coils and the new pro coil works better for me at some sights.However the X-12 is still one of my favorites.
The Pro coil is going to be hard to beat considering it is now the SE (stock coil )
I think NH Bob has got it right with a simple common sense aproach if a person is having trouble with the coil.It works wonderfull for me in grassy lawns and the first item I found with it was a small ladies 10K gold class ring at a solid 8" down.The ring was a 1927 and in mint shape.
My only complaint with the pro coil is I don't have near enough time to use it,Ray.
