And I think I will give you a little advice----LIGHTEN UP!----This post was designed with one thing in mind---to get a little humor on this Forum & too (somewhat) alleviate all the whining & bawling we've been hearing about "too heavy a detector"---"too expensive a detector" and on & on.-----I don't need your stinkin insults, so save 'em for someone you can run over on.-----I see you got your first Minelab in Oct. 2011---well I & many others started with the old XS and came right up thru the ranks with them--had every one of them.---So just relax & learn some things from these VERY experienced Minelab men here---but for cryin out loud--have a LITTLE humor along the way to----------Del.

Hope all you guys getting the CTX know about the sur tax....since only the 1% can afford to buy them the government is putting a sur tax on the purchase of the CTX the amount is $5,000 the money to go into a fund to buy CTX's for the rest of the 99% ....after all we have to have a level detecting field don't we!

Actually I'm going to sell a couple of machines and coils to replace the combined functionality of the CTX. Not to mention the only reason I can afford this hobby is because the kids are grown and not hitting up Bank of Dad on a daily basis! I don't golf or have ATVs so that helps keep the wife off my back (a little). But to be perfectly honest I never thought I wold see the day I would spend that much on a metal detector. But it will be nice to know I can plan a visit to a beach or a park without having to change machines.

I know what you mean how things change when a number of years ago I purchased a new van and realized I just spent more on it than we did for our first house! I hope to figure out a way to purchase a CTX at some point. My wife detects too, she started with my old Ace 250 and then she got really interested so I moved her to an X-Terra 705 and she did so well with that I found a nice used E-Trac for her so if I get a CTX....well you get the picture! I hope you have great success with it and I am looking forward to the posts you make about it and your finds. I am going to get to swing one for a bit tomorrow to see how it works.

D&P, its called detector re-distribution. Of course I'm not a fan,as I work for what I buy. Sure would be nice for O to buy us all one though. Maybe he could pitch that as a stimulus package of some sort... maybe " Detectors for Democrats". Sorry to interject political policy on our hobby. HH, MIke

Not even for the very worthy cause of "detector re-distribution" pspr? ----It would take me some getting used to, we haven't even had a sales tax out here in OR! -------Seriously though, the only way I was able to get the CTX is that I had some detectors I was able to trade in on it (them).----My wife loves detecting also so I got her one to.----Besides camping, fishing & boating, metal detecting is the only hobby that we really have, so feel it is money well spent.----Detecting is just something that we both really enjoy doing together (and have for years). ------Del
