Flexing of the E-Trac handle. :shrug:

Any one else notice that their E-trac handle seems to flex a bit? I just recently purchased one that was practically new, but right where face of the control panel meets the hand grip it tends to flex when swinging. It's not enough for me to be seriously concerned, but I was just curious if this happens on all E-tracs and if there is a way to correct it. :shrug:
 
Interesting. I've owned my e-trac now for about two months and have noticed on three separate occasions a vibration coming from the shaft down to the coil. Each time it stopped me dead in my tracks. I thought there had been an earthquake...as crazy as that may sound. You mentioning flex between the cp and handle makes me think that the vibration may have something to do with that. Thanks for posting.
 
If you are getting slack or vibration in your upper and lower shafts to the coil. You may want to check your upper shaft to make sure it is properly installed. The shaft is cut at an angle and if not installed with the angle in the right direction the shaft will not be fully engaged within the control box and may become lose or even fall out. The shaft will go in both directions, but one direction it will not push in far enough.


Haven't seen any flexing around my handle and control box.

I have noticed this also. Not enough to make me think it will break tho. I have my krayolacuff installed and it makes the whole unit feel much more sturdy. Hope this helps
 
Yep,I've noticed that too and mine has a very annoying creaking sound when stopped at the end of my right side swing.
It has done it since it was new last June.:shrug:
 
Mine has been solid as a rock for a year and a half. I'd be interested to see that myself because I cant figure out what would cause it.
 
Just checked mine and its solid. I'd check to be sure the shaft is in all the way.
 
Used mine again just 2 hours ago and its solid.
The only flex that I ever had was the armrest
Jeff Herke arm rest got rid of the flex from the crappy plastic Minelab one

Dang sounds like it is not fully engaged in the upper shaft to control box locking mechanism or you are swinging it way too hard or fast.

I actually just installed the Herke arm rest (And the stand) and I'll admit it's a huge improvement! Come to think of it I did not notice this issue when I had the stock arm cuff on the E-trac. I'm not saying that the Herke arm cuff is causing the problem, but the lack of movement in the Herke cuff may be making the movement in the handle more noticeable. :shrug:.
 
I made sure to push the upper shaft into the control box as far as it would go, and the longer end of the "V" taper is on the bottom as it is shown in the pics I have found online. Like I said, the flexing is not significant, but it is noticeable. I just upgraded to the E-Trac from the tank like Sovereign series that had a full aluminum shaft and handle, so I may just be making a mountain out of a molehill.:detecting:

This is exactly what's happened to me on the occasion that I accidently unlock that mechanism....one way or another. If that happens, it feels like the whole shaft is wigglin' loose.

No probs with my unit, had my E-Trac for almost a year. Sounds like the upper shaft has alignment problem.
 
Mine also is solid. But can tell you that this was a problem in the past XS and S explorer line as the cam lock was having problems being strong enough to hold the upper shaft and it would begin to wiggle out and you wuld get the wiggle/. As stated above be sure your shaft is in the correct up or down position and pushed ALL the way into the cam lock. IF you are feeling flex in the handle its self look at the moled connections and see if they are seperating.

ZOFCHAK-----My wife & I have three Etracs & have had absolutely no problem like that (or any problem for that matter) with them.-----Check your upper shaft camlock--it sounds to me like it might not be "locking in" tight enough.----That could be creating that effect that you are experiencing.---You can get a replacement part for the inside of the camlock (and install it yourself) if this is the problem.----The only other thing I could suggest---if you have, or could borrow from a friend----install a different upper shaft on your Etrac and see if that "remedies" the situation.------Hope this helps, I can see where this "problem" could be irritating--I like my detectors & shafts tight also.----Like the guys said, make sure your upper shaft is pushed ALL the way in (with the camlock COMPLETELY open when you do this) and with the angled (pointed) part of the shaft on the bottom.-------------Del
 
The "flexing" I'm describing is not as if something is loose (There's no wobble or noise), more like the handle is not as rigid as I would expect. I've attached a photo showing the exact location where it is occurring (It's definitely on the handle side of the control box, not the upper rod.)
 
Hmmm, that IS a new one on me pardner!---Never heard of that "issue" before on a Explorer or Etrac.----I just now (re-checked) my detectors and they are fine.---So I'm fresh "out of bullets" for suggestions for you as to a solution.-----Maybe somebody else has an idea on this?----Hope you can get it figured out.--------Regards, Del
 
How is the control box attached to the handle, is there possibly a through bolt. It would go through the handle from the bottom up into the control box. It may have come loose during shipment, or not tightened enough from the factory. Just my opinions. I have not noticed that on my 4 month old Etrac, but, of course I've been snowed and frozen in since I got it:surrender:
