A few weeks ago I stopped to check out an old 1850's Church on my way home from an out of town trip. I wanted to get a feel for the place and return for a hunt in the near future.
I could see there was very little under brush in the woods so I could use a bigger coil - I decided that I when I came back I would hunt with my 10 x 12 S.E.F. coil for more depth and coverage.
As planned, when I got off of work last Friday morning - I grabbed a cup of coffee to go and drove straight to the church.
I was pretty sure that this old church had been hunted by many others in the past - so I decided to hunt off the beaten path - along the edge of the lawn near the woods and in the woods itself.
After hunting for about a hour I got a solid - ( FE 12 - CO 43) hit 6" to 7" down.
I thought it was a little odd that I was getting the same target I.D. numbers as newer copper cent down that deep - so I dug a wide plug to be safe.
Wow ... what a heart stopper ... a 183 year old Capped Bust Dime !
