Found A Old Brass Padlock

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
Went to the site of a house that was built around 1915 the other day. The neighbor told me the house was torn down around five years ago - junk metal everywhere.
Found several coins from the 1960's and this old brass Padlock. Looks like it's from the late 1800's or earlier 1900's.

really cool lock, was it green with patina before you shined it? All the brass locks i have dug have been green like indian pennies

No - this lock didn't have a green patina like brass usually does - it was just a total mess when I found it - had some steel next to it.

Cool find Mark, if that lock could only talk. Makes you wonder what it was used for. -- Randy

If you want instructions on how to get it open without damaging it, feel free to private message me. I found a very similar railroad lock in my neck of the woods. Being a locksmith, it was very simple to get mine unlocked :) Congrats on a great find!

Nice looking old lock, great shape too!
