Found another 16 Silver on Saturday and Sunday's little outings.:super:

Back again with another LOAD of finds for you all to drool at. So let's get started!

Saturday, Tim, Dale and I headed out once again in search for more TREASURE for our collections. Tim had to drop a transmission off for a guy down south so we didn't get detecting until around 9:00am.

First spot we hit was a Park. As we drove through town looking for the park on the map, we noticed when we got there that the sidewalks had all been torn out and there was a lot of them to detect. We all immediately headed over to area's where sidewalks had been and started hunting. Tim started finding a few Wheats and was off to a quick start. At first, I couldn't find anything until I decided to detect where Dale had just been at. I started to slow down the swing speed and work the area overlapping my swings as I went. Right where Dale left, I got an nice 28 reading on Digital and it showed about 4" Deep. I dug the dirt up and out pops a Barber Dime. Alright!!! I then continued and about 10" away was another reading. This time I dug down and a Wheatie showed itself. Got up again and about 6" away was another signal. Dug down again and out pops another Barber Dime. YIPPEEEE!!! I then asked Dale if he was finding anything and he said he had found a Barber Dime and a Wheatie or 2. I then told him I had just dug 2 Barber Dimes and a Wheatie where he had just left off. He then asked how Deep they were and I told him they weren't very Deep at all. He then told me that he was going over the loud signals thinking they were New Coins. I thought to myself, "how can they be New Coins if they were under the sidewalk?". Dale then started hunting the area again. I then dug 2 more Wheats and a Merc. Dale didn't get anything else in the sidewalk area. I then worked around more of the sidewalks and found a War Nickel, a couple more Wheats and an Indian Head Penny.

I then started to hunt the Park itself. It seemed like it was pretty dead but then again this Park was about 2 city blocks long and a city block wide so there was plenty of area where coins could be hiding. I started to find more Wheats and then I got back over by the car and hit a Wheatie. Next target was another Barber Dime. Soon after this another Barber Dime showed itself and a few more Wheats. By this time, Tim and Dale were both waaaaay over on the other end of the Park. I decided to go see what they were finding so I walked over to them. I asked them if they were finding anything and they both said they were only finding Old Pennies. I then said "alright, I'm going back over where the Barber is, see ya guys later!". You should have seen the looks on those guys faces!!! Then I told them that I had just picked up 2 Barber Dimes over by the car. Tim told me that is where Dale had found his. It didn't take me and Dale long to get back over there and work that area. I noticed that Tim stayed behind for awhile so I thought maybe he was finding a bunch of Silver and he didn't want us to know about it. A little later he came back and told me he had found something that he has never found before. He told me that I had found it before but never him. He then told me he just picked up 2 Barber Quarters in 1 hole over on the other end of the Park. 1896-o and 1900. You could see some green on each side of the coins that showed they were in fact together. Cool find Tim!!!

We continued hunting for quite awhile. Before we left, Dale had picked up 2 more Barber Dimes, 2 Merc's, an Indian Head and a bunch more Wheats. Tim found a few more Wheats, an Indian Head or 2, and another Barber Dime. I picked up a bunch more Wheats, a V-Nickel, 2 more Indians, and a few more Silver Dimes.

We then headed to a different town in search for another Park. Tim get out and finds a Merc right away so we thought we were going to do well here for about an hour or so of daylight we had left for the day. After that, Tim didn't find anything else until he came over and asked if I had found anything. I don't think Dale found anything but maybe a Wheatie here but he sat in the car for the rest of the hunt. It was only about 15-20 minutes before Tim and I packed it in ourselves. I told Tim that I had found a Merc, a Silver Rosie, and about 10-15 Wheats already. He then replies to Dale, "Yep, leave it to the Silver King to show us that there is stuff here!". I chuckled a bit after he said it. He then said maybe we should stay just a few more minutes since I had found that much stuff. I then told him that he would have to listen well since they were super deep and he agreed after he come across his first target. I also mentioned that most of the Coins found were all in the Teens! Then we hunted a bit more. Tim dug 2 Merc's, a Barber Dime all in a row and a few Wheats before we left. I dug a few more Wheats and another Merc. We packed it in and headed home with another successful outing under our belts.

I ended Saturday with 10 Silver and 50+ Wheats. I also had 3 Indians, a V-Nickel, a War Nickel and a Penny I thought was Canadian but found out it is from Bermuda. Tim ended the day with 2 Barber Quarters, 2 Barber Dimes, Silver total was 7 or 8, a V-Nickel, a Buffalo Nickel, a few Indians, and around 30 Wheats he thought. Dale found a bunch of Wheats, an Indian or 2, 4 Barber Dimes, Silver total was 5 or 6. 12 Barber Day for the 3 of us and that don't happen that often!:super:

Sunday, I planned on hooking up with Michelob (Mike) and doing some detecting together. I was really looking forward in meeting another member from the forum but it wasn't to be. I chatted with him on the phone on Sunday Morning and planned on hooking up. About 20 minutes went by and then Mike called me back. His wife wasn't feeling well so he had to stay home. He then apologized but I told him it wasn't a big deal, things happen and there is always another time where we can meet up again. He then told me about a specific Park he had gotten his first Barber Dime from. It was another 50+ Miles off course of where I was headed but I figured I was out far enough now, what is another 50 Miles?

I stopped off at another Park in another town for about 15 minutes to see if there was anything there. All I found was some Clad and 1 lone Wheatie. So off I went to the Park Mike told me about.

When I arrived, I didn't realize that the Park was going to be so big. It was a City Block Park and there was no way I could hunt it out even if I tried on Sunday. I got out and the first target I got was an Indian Head off the boulevard. 1903. I then started to work around some Horse Shoe Pits. I found 2 Wheats and a Super Nice 23 Merc here. I then walked along a fence on one side of the Park, working my way towards the north end of the Park. I picked up 2 more Wheats, a Silver Rosie, and another Indian Head dated 1881. I then started to wander around the inside of the Park hoping to land a few more keepers. I dug an Old Copper Ring and then found another Wheatie. I then decided to try along the sidewalk on the west side of the Park. I found another Wheatie and then got the signal that I was looking for. Got a good sounding 28 on Digital and it showed about 8" Deep. Dug a plug and out pops an 1899 Barber Dime. Just the Coin I was looking for! My 5th Barber of the weekend. I continued hunting for a little longer and was only able to pick up another Wheatie. I then decided to head over to the Fairgrounds.

It was about to rain so time was limited. First target I dug was a Wheatie. I then tried a few others but soon found out that the ground was Rock Hard and it would have to wait for another time to try this Fairgrounds. I then jumped into the car and headed towards the destination I had originally planned for.

I got towards the town and the rain was starting to come down pretty good now. I filled up the car and decided to call it a day.....at least I thought I was done!

I came across a Town Hall that I had seen on the way so I decided to try it fast since rain was coming. I got out and about 2 minutes later, found a 1907 Indian. Detected for about another 10 minutes and came across a Compact and a Merc. Then it started to sprinkle so I left. Now for the trip home.............or was it???

I then come through the town where Tim had found his 1882-s Silver Dollar at. I stopped at the Park where he had found it and thought about getting out and detecting it. I then sat and thought for a few minutes of what to do. It looked like it could rain again so I didn't know what to do. I then drove out of the Park and was about to head on home until I turned back down the same street and decided to go give the Fairgrounds about 30 minutes of my time.

At the Fairgrounds, I was able to pick up a Rosie, then a Merc. After that I found a few more Wheats and 2 really CRUSTY INJUNS! Both dated 1902. After that, I headed home. For Sunday, I had found 6 more Silver, 5 Indians and 17 more Wheats. Not a bad day!

Also, a HUGE THANKS to Michelob on the little bit of info on the Park and Fairgrounds! Even though we didn't get to meet this time, we will get together sooner or later. Hope to meet up with ya soon and do some ground poundin' together. Thanks again Mike!:super:

Total Silver was 16. They are 5 Barber Dimes dated 1899,1903,1907,1912,1916, 8 Mercury Dimes dated (2)1918,1919,1923,1936,1936-d,1938-d,1943-d and 3 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d,1948-d and 1956-d. I found a 1953 Canadian Penny and a 1970 One Cent Coin from Bermuda. Pics are below of front and back. 8 Indian Heads were recovered this time out and they are dated 1881,1887,(3)1902,1903,1905 and 1907. 2 Nickels were found and they are 1 Liberty V-Nickel dated 1901 and 1 Jefferson (War/Silver) Nickel dated 1945-d. As for Wheats, I dug a Whopping 69 of these!:surprised: There was only 2 better dates here and they were a Super Nice 1909 V.D.B. and a 23-s Wheatie. The 09 V.D.B. has Full Wheat Heads and the Pic doesn't do it justice. Now that's a Wheat Field!!! I also dug for Misc. Items a Key with Chicago Lock Company on it, a Copper Ring, a Ring with Hall Of Science Chicago with 1833 on one side of the Ring and 1933 on the other side, a Religious Pendant with Holy Childhood Association on one side and the other reads Let The Little Children Come Unto Me with Italy by the Copyright, a Compact that reads Kissproof U.S.A on one side, a 4-H Pin, another Pin and a Button that reads R.L. MFG. CO Newark NJ on the back.

Hope you all had good finds during your outings and thanks for looking. Best of Luck and HH to you all![attachment 128793 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 128794 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 128796 23MercFront.jpg][attachment 128797 23MercBack.jpg][attachment 128812 1909V.D.B.Front.jpg][attachment 128813 1909V.D.B.Back.jpg][attachment 128799 DirtyNickelsampIndians.jpg][attachment 128801 CleanedNickelsampIndians.jpg][attachment 128802 DirtyForeignCoins.jpg][attachment 128803 CleanedForeignCoinsA.jpg][attachment 128804 CleanedForeignCoinsB.jpg][attachment 128810 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 128811 CleanedWheats.jpg][attachment 128795 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 128800 CleanedMisc..jpg]

James...that's the nicest '23 Merc I've seen come out of the ground:thumbup:

It was nice of "Cousin Mike" to let you know about the park he hunted....and I'm sure he's happy you found some goodies there.

Nice batch of finds again buddy.:clapping:

James, it seems like there are a lot of parks around where you live. Did most of the cities you hunt start around the turn of the century based on some government homesteading act to farm land? North of Utah in Idaho many towns were started this way and they all have parks. It was pretty good up in Idaho for a time, probably still is but it's hard to get up there.

Congratulations! I know you have to work for it. But I've got to find some parks like that. Where you can find more than one or two silvers in a whole day of hunting. Keep up the good work!

Way to go James! I am glad that park gave up some goodies for you. That is great. Good job. We will have to get together soon.

We will get together sometime and hope to have a great spot to go to so you can take some Silver home with ya. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you this weekend.

Almost every spot I have stopped at this year so far has yeilded a lot of Old Coins so far. Just hope to continue bringing in the heaps of Silver all year round. Thanks for the reply Randy and hope you have some Good Luck and HH on your next outing.

And when you say I work for it, you bet I do. We have been doing more traveling this year just to be able to find what we are so it is getting harder and harder to find sites like these. Sometime soon I fear that the finds will be very little so I'll just keep riding the wave until it ends. Glad you liked the finds Neal and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.

This is what detecting is all about......bringing home a bunch of goodies and so far I am exceeding the results I thought we would have this year. I'll keep digging all them Silver's until it dries up......which I hope isn't for awhile yet. Thanks for the response and Good Luck and HH to you in your neck of the woods.:detecting:

I'll give you a little advice here about making more finds. Do a little road tripping once in awhile and visit some neighboring towns to see what they have to offer. You might find out that there is stuff practically in your own backyard that you never knew about. Also, keep an eye out for any road construction. Doing the boulevards can yeild a lot of great keepers if you hit it just right. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you.

Doubt I will get it but you just never know with the luck I have been having lately. Hope to come close and if not, I hope to at least get another 10 Silver this weekend. Thanks for the response and Good Luck and HH to you on your next outing.:detecting:

I know a lot of the towns got started around the 1870's and up due to the Railroad coming thru at the time so this is part of the reason. There is a lot of towns next to rivers also that made it a great spot to have a Park early in the pioneer days when they were using the river for transportation also. What ever the reason though, there is quite a few Parks in this area and a lot of Fairgrounds as well. Lots of the Parks are smaller but there is some pretty huge Parks in the bigger cities and towns that will take forever to try and hunt out. Hope this answered your question a bit and thanks for the reply on my finds. Good Luck and HH to you.

to hook up and do some detecting together. I bet Mike wishes that he could have added that one to his collection. Now only if it had the S Mint Mark, then it would be a real keeper for sure but I will take any High Grade Coin no matter what it is. Thanks for the reply Bryce and thanks again to Michelob on the Park he told me about. Good Luck and HH to you both this weekend.:detecting:

AWESOME JOB JAMES:thumbup: THE THREE AMIGOS STRIKES AGAIN :beers: YOU MUST BE STILL FAIRLY YOUNG...IF I DUG 69 WHEATS IN ONE WEEKEND, IT WOULD TAKE ME TWO WEEKENDS TO STAND STRAIGHT UP AGAIN. AND THE 16 SILVER 5 BARBERS ,I SAY YOU DID QUITE WELL IM SPEECHLESS:surprised: GREAT STORY JAMES...HH..PHIL

Great bunch of finds James. You're one fine detectorist (if that's a word?). Have not been out much lately due to the economic situation around here.Money and time are wicked tight.
Hope your well and keep up the good work.GR...Oh! sweet merc.

It was very nice of you to clean out all that "common" clutter and clear the way for all the seated material underneath (you know, for the rest of us).

Just kidding of course. What a weekend that was. Great read as usual James. Always interesting to see what you've discovered. Congrats on a terrific haul!
