Friday the 13th Hunt

It was a soul draining hot and muggy day last Friday, but I had the itch to hunt. At one site I found a massacred 1892O Barber Quarter. Man, what a shame! But all was not lost. I soon found a 1942S Mercury Dime. At another park I got a deep 30's signal beside a spot where a huge tree was excavated. It turned out to be a "Good For 5 Cents" H. Rice Maker token from Dayton, Ohio. If anyone has any information on that token, I sure would appreciate you sharing it with me. I also found a "whatzit" relic, some wheats, modern coins and junk. Despite the heat, and the ground being nearly as hard as concrete, I had a good time. Happy Hunting! Dan

Anyone know anything about it?

Great looking finds and it sure looks like that coin was hit a few times.

"Whatzit."
I have see them used for hooking a small boat to a rope. The rope is stretched above the boat with the rope going through the large hole, and then the boat rope has a clip that hooks onto the small hole. You would attach the boat at both ends with two of them.

Cool finds. That Barber is chewed up, but at least it still has a readable date. Nice Merc. The token seems to lack the proprietor's name on it. H. Rice was the guy who made the token and was in business circa 1859-1919, according to the text Ohio Merchant Tokens by Gaylor Lipscomb. HH

Another great video Dan! Thanks for braving the heat and taking us along with you! Congratulations on the finds and the pictures too!

Dan that What Is It relic looks very similar to one I found. The item on the left looks like what you found. The 3 parts I found hook together. They are obviously deformed. Some think it is a sword hanger assembly. Others think it is something horse tack related. This forum will not let me provide a link to another forum or I would give you a link where the item was discussed. Let me know if you ever make a positive ID.

Thanks, TokenDigger!

Thanks, John and dgc! One other guy thought it might be a rifle sling part. There's no water around the park so I'm not sure it's a boat part. I did dig it up right beside the road that goes through the park, so it could be related to horses.
