FT's choice for coil connection plugs......

Jay Evans

New member
When I changed coils out on the T2 today I took a better look at the plug on the coil. I noticed some small screws that could potentially loosen on these plugs & well after giving the considerable price that I did for the T2 SE.... I feel that the plugs on the coils should be a little more heavier duty. the screw on connector has a tin looking screw nut too. I guess I expected a little more in the coil connection dept on the FT units. Great detectors though I can't knock them at all ....... I Love the ease of use and great performance I'm getting. It just seems like they settled for less in design by going with this cheaper looking connector. I read one post where the screws came out and one of the guys from FT made it good. (Sent him a screw) This is my first venture from another detector brand and maybe I'm whining about nothing. I've had no issues with the connectors, but I can see where they could be a problem down the road if you change coils often as I will be doing & everyone else does as well.

So their getting better... Maybe the next ones will be different.. I hadn't really noticed a flaw with the connects myself..I do know this..You have to make sure all is tightened or you get Chatter..............I did just look at my Whites machines and they may be a little better connector..So you may be on to something..

Not sure if you could take to a tech (Electronics) and have same pins ( Contacts) different head types installed ... I would just not worry so much and if you have an issue Call FELIX ............I have used a number of their machines and never had an issue..

But I do know what you mean..spending that kind of money and getting less than you know is available is a little disappointing isn't it.

Well I'm not really disappointed .... but I've seen much better connectors that would give years of service and no little screws to fall out you know. Like I said I'm probably just whining for nothing. I have loved the detectors performance so far though.... no complaints from me on the performance at all. The Boost and Cache modes perform great, I used the Boost mode in high weeds this morning and allowed me to maneuver through that with no problems and still detected targets with ease. Getting used to pinpointing with the 11"DD today, as Concentrics are all I've ever had to use up until I purchased the T2SE.

I'm the one that mentioned losing the connecter screw on the Omega and also mentioned that it would be prudent to check them once in a while to insure they remain tight. On the other hand, I had some where over 3000 hours on a F 75 and changed coils frequently and never had a connection problem nor ever thought to check the screws, either. As mentioned, if the connection isn't tight, this can cause erratic behavior. HH jim tn
