Hey everyone,
I've been hunting for the past few years with a wide variety of detectors. In the past year and a half I've used the Teknetics Gamma, with the 8". 11" Double D, 5" 'hockey puck', and now the 5"x10". Now I've used a lot of detectors including the Ci bola, Amigo, bounty hunter, and fooled around with my dad's new minelab, and his G2 with my own Nautilus. I am impressed with the Gamma, not only in finds, but craftsmanship, weight, and sure ferocity with this detector.
I've recently used the 5x10 coil with the Gamma as of late and 2 words describe it..."FREAKING AWESOME!!!"
The 5x10 offers everything that I wanted when I've been hunting a few sites, both sites I have found civil war bullets; 2 three ringers, and 4 pistol shots(from both sites). not to mention a great find of 4 to 5 wheat leaf penny's. and a nice Jefferson war nickle. Mind you I do compare my dads G2 and Minelab with this detector and beat it and our friends gold bug (*giggle snort*) both great machines mind you, just not for me. but this page is going to give any of you confused about getting this coil and my pro's and con's of the coil wiht the machine. so here it goes....
PRO'S:
1: The coil in the 5x10, has an awesome trash separation rate. I found a 1929 wheat leaf next to a can and pull tab, it was awesome that I was able to get the penny out first followed by the trash to help clean out the area.
2: This coil offers the depth of a bigger coil. The same penny I found with the can and t he pull tab was over 8" in the ground, I buried my $10 digging tool. lol.
3: This coil barely changes the VDI numbers on my machine, I figured this out when I was hunting a test site, where my sister pulled up a nice V nickle with her Alpha. I started out using the 5" coil where my numbers were more accurate, but the depth registration was horrible, it would say 5" but really it was only 2 1/2". Then proceeding to the 8" and the 11" where my depth was greater, but my accuracy was off almost 4 digits. It would read a nickle in pulltab or foil instead of being in my nickle range. Then I moved out to the 5x10" coil, this coil offered me slightly greater depth than the 8" I used but gave me a great accurate reading like I had a 5" coil on.
CON's:
1: there is really only one flaw with this coil, and that's swing speed; you really need to hunt slow with this coil on to get the best it has to offer. not really a downside, just more of a suggestion if you get this coil for any Teknetics machine.
Overall I would get this coil for your machine especially if there is deep targets with alot of trashy targets up on top ground. I definitely recommend a coil this size.
......That is my review for the 5x10" coil. If it helps I'm glad I could help out anyone, I've been hunting since I was real little and I'm 23 now. my latest finds with my Gamma is a Silver and Brass Bracelet, 6 wheat leaf's from both sites I have hunted, 4 pistol shot civil war bullets, and 2 three ringers. I haven't figured out how to put pictures up on the post yet, but I will put them on as soon as I can. The Bracelet we figured out that it is from the 1930 or older, counting backwards, and the three wings and bullets were definitely fired. I will post pictures as soon as I can.
Thanks for reading and Happy hunting everyone!!
