Garrett GTI 1500

I have been out of the metal detecting hobby now for about 20 years. My last detector was a Garrett Master Hunter 5 and I loved it. I am looking to get back in to the hobby, but need some information on the performance of the GTI 1500.

I live just outside Nashville, TN. (you know, where a lot of the Civil War battles happened) I know the GTI 1500 is an excellent coin and jewelry hunter, but can it find those ever elusive mini balls, belt buckles, buttons and shells from over 140 years ago? More than likely, what is left to find will be below 12 to 18 inches.

Is there a detector that is more suitable for this purpose? I would like to stay loyal to Garrett as they have always been easy to deal with and good on their word for fixes and repairs.

I use 2 detectors depending on where I am hunting. I have a Technetics T2 and a Garrett GTI-2500. Both are terrific relic hunters. I am in Northern Virginia and mostly relic hunt where my targets are generally between 3-9 inches. Today for example, 22 November, I was out in the clear cold weather---never got above 38---and used both detectors over the course of the day, I found 10 Civil War bullets and a very nice Union Infantry Officer's cuff button in great shape. The cuff button was at about 5 inches.

I commend either detector to you and have been told the 1500 finds relics very much like the 2500 does, so you can do well with any of these.

I would also highly recommend the new Garrett Pro-Pointer. It is the best pin-pointer I have ever used and I do not detect without it now. It will help your finds tremendously.

Good luck!

Dont be too sure on the foot and a half of depth. Oddly after all these years, most things still aren't all that deep. The exception is in plowed fields where items can be lifted and reburied over time.
The 2500 has a reputation as being one of the deepest detectors around, when taken in stages. The first stage is to clear off the surface trash, using moderate SENS in the DISC mode.
Stage two is to wind out the SENS in DISC.
Stage three is to wind out the SENS in the AM mode, and switch to a large coil.

For all that effort, you had better do some good research to be assured you are on the right spot.

hello i guess i will respond too this i curently own a garrett gti 1500 and i have owned many top brand detectors and have too say garretts gti 1500 is one of the best i have ever used in all aspects of the detector it will go deep but imageing is effected with size imageing but i have found quarters at 10 too 12 inches! in coins mode sensativity set at 9.5 with stock coil so it has the ability for finding deep relics and coins. the coins belltone is a awesome feature and the 24 segmented discrimination is right on all i have too say is wtg garrett

The 1500 is an excellent coin and jewelry machine and is listed for relics but for deep relics you might want to go with the 2500 with it's all metal mode or if PI's are your cup of tea the Infinium with its 96 frequencies will go deeper than you may care to dig but it does have a learning curve.

Bill.
