Garrett probe with E trac?

Howdy,
I know, I know, get the in line probe. But I have a bad rotator cuff and don't want any more weight on the detector, I also only need to use a probe on nice lawns and in some locations or with small targets and am not satisfied with the one inch in depth my current one gets. I was looking at the Detector pro pin-pointer but it interferes with the E trac when they are both on. So i wonder how the Garret pro pointer works with the E trac, how deep it gets, and how well it works. If any of you folks use it could you please give me your take on it?

Well I found a ton of information on this probe in the Garrett user forum. I love this web site it rocks. If you would still like to tell me about your experiance with this pin pointer I would appreciate it as I probably will order this one next week.

The Garrett probe enterfers with the Etrac and Safari as well. I have one, and used it with my safari. I had to have my wife, who went with me, step a couple feet away with the safari when I was pinpointing with the garrett probe. If the safari was close, soon as I turned the probe on, the safari started squealing like a scalded cat.
 
Something else...I suggest you go ahead and bite the bullet and get the sunray inline probe. Which is what I did. And get one of those swingy thingys to take the weight off your arm. I have health issues that require me using as little weight as possible on my arms. So I do know about the issue. I will say this. The probe doesnt add significant amount of weight because of the balance. The switch box has little weight, and the probe itself, if you attach it by the armrest section balances out very well. Then get the swingy thingy and you wont have any problems.

The Whites probe might work, and I have one of their older probes, but havent used it with the safari. I dont have the safari now since I traded it in on the Etrac and it wont be here till Tuesday. First thing I will do Tuesday is try both probes and see how they do. I expect the Garrett probe to do the same thing with the ET as it did with the safari. The whites probe, I dont know. I do know I didnt like the whites probe which is why I got the garrett. I will use the garrett with my other detectors and the whites probe is being retired to the closet shelf. I do have a Kellyco V4 coming in sometime this next week. I can try that as well and see how it does with the ET. It is a large probe, and not one of my favorites for sure, but if you are trying to avoid the inline probe, this one might work with the ET.
 
I use a Garrett Pro-Pointer with my E-Trac, haven't experienced any interference or cross-talk.
 
Phil, dont know what to say. I have my ET coming Tuesday so will check it out with the garrett probe. I do know for a fact that it does cause problems with the safari. The ET is very similar machine. If it doesnt, I will be surprised. Pleasently so, I will admit since I do like the probe.

utahshovelhead, I would you could assume that Phil is right...and in the meantime I will check the probe against my Etrac when it gets here Tuesday and see what happens.
 
The Sunray inline is the best probe for an Explorer, but if weight is an issue, get the Garrett Pro Pointer. Sometimes a couple of ounces make a big difference and with my bad wrists and elbow, removing my Sunray gave me some comfort. Losing the Sunray was hard and I tried every bungee strap made, but I hated being hooked up to it. The Garrett will not interfere with the Etrac at all and without a doubt, it is the best handheld pinpointer made. R.L.

I'm not suggesting all Garrett Pro-Pointers work with all E-Tracs... just my (1) Pro-Pointer works well with my (1) E-Trac. I accept that with production variance, interference is a possibility. But, a number of people are using E-Trac/Pro-pointer combination successfully. Hopefully, your new E-Trac will work with your Pro-Pointer. (Always possible that I simply set my E-Trac just out of interference range... either way, it works for me.)
 
I have the propointer and so do 2 of my hunting buddies and we all use the etrac, absolutely NO interference at all!
 
Hey Phil, didnt mean to come accross as accusatory regarding your remark... There can be variances as you say. And it is possible that the probe wont cause any problems with the ET.. But because of my own experience with it causing interference with my Safari and the fact that the safari is so similar to the ET that I cannot help but have some doubts until I am able to either confirm or deny said doubts with my own experience. Dang, that was a mouthfull.:tongue:

And it is very possible, that because of the users ability to modify the settings of the ET that it can be set so that the probe does not cause any problems, while the Safari does not have the same ability to do so. NOW, that being said..I did not attempt to adjust the safari by using the noise cancel those times I used the garrett probe with it. Thinking back on it now, it might have been the thing to do by simply turning the probe on at using noise cancel and letting the detector find the frequency that the probe did not cause interference on. That is the purpose of noise cancel after all.
So it could very likely have been an easy fix by simply pushing noise cancel on the Safari.

Unfortunately since I dont have the safari on hand to check it I cannot verify that using said noise cancel would have fixed the problem. But I do find that there would be a good chance that it would have. Now I wish I could test that theory.
 
I also use the Pro Pointer and have had 0 problems. I get 1.5 to 2 inches depth on coins and more depth on large targets. Keeping a fresh battery in it seems to help with performance.
 
Bill, wonder if you are familiar with this little trick for increasing the sensitivity of the Garrett probe?

I had heard about it and figured it was just talk, but then thought about when I read your post and went ahead and tried it.
Take a penny, and your probe. Turn the probe on, and starting on the barrell of the probe, slide the coin slowly towards the butt of the probe just untl it is no longer detected. Hold it at that spot, then use the probe on another coin or other piece of metal. It will actually double and more the distance at which the probe finds metal. No kidding. Then just tape or glue, if you want to make it permenent, the penny at that spot and you have doubled the sensitivity of your probe.

I was surprised, but it does work. I have no idea why, but what the heck...it works.
 
I have the Garrett Pro-pointer and have used it the etrac and safari - I have never experienced any interference - I beat the hell out of it in the hole. keeps on ticking. good depth - accurate - excellent alternative to an inline probe. wouldn't hunt without it.
 
I currently have both.

I've been using the Pro Pointer for over a year and love it.

Bought a Sunray X-1 probe about 2 months ago and used it on 15 or 20 hunts. It works fine and does everything it's suppose to do.

I just prefer the pro pointer and have gone back to using it. No interference problems.

Both are good. What is best is what works the best for you.
 
Get the Garrett pin pointer. It works great and no interference with the Etrac. I like the "no wire" concept. Very accurate and water resistant. Battery lasts along time and is easy to change out. Worth the price!
 
I also use my Pro Pointer with the E-Trac (had the pointer before I bought it) with no problems, I have the Pro Pointers nylon sheath mounted with black zip ties on the shaft below the E-Tracs head, so it is always handy. The weight of it is no issue with me, as the E-trac is very light compared to machines from the past. (together they feel like a feather compared to my old Whites CoinMaster 600) :biggrin: Depending on soil... I get 2-3 inches of depth with the pointer. BSC

Iused to have the garret, turn it on, do a noise cancle, just depends on the chanel your etrak is running, no problems at all, you do need to cover the holes up on the pinpointer though, water does & will get in.
 
Bigskycountry, thats a good idea putting the sheath on the detector. Hadnt thought about that. Belt sheath........putting in on the detector, thats whats called, "thinking out of the box" Good thinking. Going ot have to think about a way to do that so I can use it on my other detectors. Be able to switch it from one to the other.
Dave, thats what I had said previously was likely the cause if someone had problems and then to solve it, just do a noise cancel. Glad that you have actually had the problem and solved it doing the noise cancel. Shows that the probe DOES occasionallly cause a problem but that its easily solved on the RARE occasions by just pushing the noise cancel. Shows that no one was wrong..it was simply subjective evidence based on personal experience.

Problem solved....now time to go swing a coil. Good hunting all.
 
I've worn all the paint and just about half the letters off a pro pointer with the E Trac laying on the ground beside it and have absolutely no interferance at all. Even with the ET maxed out in manual still none.
 
The Garret pin pointer should work fine with the E-Trac. I prefer a pin pointer i can use the pattern My detector is using while I pin point...I dig so many holes with iron/Nails in with the coins i need to be able to discrim out those nails while pin pointing :) Some guys seem to like the Uni-probe as well .Whatever your choice,I hope you enjoy it :) HH
