Geared up and ready for 2013 season finally !!

Hello all i had all Winter to take my time and get my detecting gear ready and finally the temps . are starting to cooperate by next week near 50* i like to thank everyone in this forum for all your very informative and useful expertise information that help me build what i think are killer machines and set-up,s i cant wait until the first fields out here are plowed up and i can get on some beaches and do some deep searching with the coils Ive yet to really get out and hunt with . Again thanks for all the great HP and Meter builds a few did for me :thumb up: everything works perfect , and all the very useful BBS information and yes Critter i do read your COMMENTS !!! and take in ALL that knowledge you have i took a photo of some of my gear the wife wont let me keep everything in the house lol . One of the things that I love about this hobby is hearing different opinions or approaches to sites, settings, and coils. That's just one aspect that I enjoy the heck out of. Lots of varying views out there on all these things. I quietly scroll by what isn't of interest to me, and what does I try to soak up all I can on to contrast for myself and see how it pans out. The differences in soils, sands, hunting styles, settings, and even the subtle quirks or hints people pick up on with a machine while others are paying attention to some other aspects of it, means that nobody is ever really right or wrong. It's all in what works for you, and in my case I just enjoy sharing with others what I've found works for me.

That's some fine looking gear. That SEF coil just looks deadly on the end of a detector shaft, don't it? Like alien technology. Have to get my butt in gear and pick up that Plano waterproof box for my water rig because swimming season is fast approaching. Looks like you are using the one version that isn't as long as the other Plano box I've seen a few others using. I think I'm going to get the size your using to keep the bulk down, although it's going on a snap on back shaft extension to keep out of the water so I guess it doesn't matter. I'm hearing that Dicks Sporting Goods carries some of these boxes. Need to take a ride up there and see because I hate ordering stuff through the mail even if I have to pay a little more locally.

I dont know about thaat Plano box on the shaft ? i just weighed the Plano with the GT box in it and it weighed almost 3 pounds 2.8 to be exact to me that would be way to top heavy !!! plus the extention . GL Jim

Hi Joe that shovel i made its from a small shovel 19 inch handle i took off and put and put a 34 inch fiberglass handle on it total length is 54 inches from T handle to the tip and very lite not even 2 pounds that hard thin tinsil steel last for ever for sure it saves a lot of bending over i pick up that small shovel at my local garden center the fiberglass handle at the same place for 6.00 , total cost 17.00 with tax . Thanks Frank that Minelab 8 inch Coin Search is on a modified 1980,s Bounty Hunter bud TR fiberglass detector shaft lol a oldie machine i pick up at a yard sale for 5.00 nothing goes to waist here and sure beats changing coils if i need one it works perfect and very lite . HH Jim

Hows your comparison on what looks like Black Widows and the Peltors?

Jim,they were predicting a warming trend here and backed away 2 inches or more of snow tomorrow.This year winter has just been too long,LOL I'm beyond cabin fever.The 10X12 SEF and the 8 in Coinsearch coils should cover most of your hunting needs.I like the long handle small shovel.Thanks HH Ron

Neil the difference is like day and night i still like the BW,s but not for long hunts my ears hurt even with the volume controls and the are a little heavier and tight , OBN,s what a difference in sound and comfort i could keep them on for hours i can just tell by wearing them just 20 minutes , the BW,s do keep a little more outside sound out but that is because they are so TIGHT !! the ear muffs are about the same size but OBN,s my whole ear fits in them that makes a big difference in comfort depends on now big someones ear,s are All in All Obn takes the win !! sound to is fantastic . Ron in time ill build a few more shafts for the other BBS coils i have be very easy to switch 1 wire to plug in lol that 180 meter is right on the button !! works great thanks . next week temps 50*here finally . HH Jim
