Ghost town question

Ted S

Well-known member
Great forum here! I still can't figure out overlays but have not taken much time to do it. My question is as follows:
When towns were platted out in the 1860s and 1870s did they use latitude and longitude back then? There is an town that was on the plat map near my late dads farm that shows a P.O. and exsisted from around 1855 then folded up around 1885-1890. The plat shows no building sites. Thoughts? Thanks!! Ted

I think they used Township ,Range and Section to locate older properties.Try Historic mapworks on the net.
