Going to conduct a little quiz. What features and innovations would you like to see on a new Garrett detector - what kind of display, what kind of con

Whatever it is make it lite weight! With everything those fancy cell phones can do why not make it that size? Carbon fiber rods and coils. That should get it to about 2 pounds or less?

Multiple freq's i would like. Check out the new Whites top o the line detector that just came out this week. Is quite a nice machine. But it is $1600. maybe Garrett is working on something to compete with this beast. I will wait. But it is a cool machine...

I would like to see Garret offer a larger choice of searchcoils. 18" & 24" would be great for going deeper. A happy medium in between the depth multiplier and 12.5" & 10"x14". I can agree with the other replies as well. Great ideas. Thanks.

I wonder what kind of difference it would make by adding multi frequencies to the 2500 and making it weigh a bit less. Maybe have an option of a concentric coil or a DD coil with the purchase of a machine, and then add both types of coils with a pro package.

I know there are FCC rules on frequencies but if they could add as many frequencies as possible and still have a stable machine would that help? Low freq. greatest depth, higher freq. greater sensitivity on lower conductive targets. I am not well spoken on any of this technology but with the computer processors out there now I am sure almost anything is possible if you have the money to pay for it. Would this be a GTI 3500 ? Just a thought.

I think Garrett is going to have to do something to keep up with the E-Trac and the Vision, hopefully surpass it. I know the technology is there but I am ignorant to the fact of how to make a machine out perform another. Competition is good keeps things interesting, I believe all high end detectors are great machines because 99% is operator and head space.
Just my 2 cents.

A coil that could shoot a little red( or any color) projectile directly above the object when you pipoint it. That would be nice. Just be sure you bring enough of the projectiles before you go on a hunt!!!!!!

An ACE 250 with:

Three way frequency switch.
Waterproof to 100 meters.
24 section readout instead of twelve.
Coin/prospecting/nugget mode.
Backlight for night hunting.
Switch earphone plugin to other side.
Firefly light with on - off switch.
Autotrac/manual ground balancing.

HEY GARRETT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ----A LOT OF THIS COULD BE EASILY DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyhow, I LIKE MY ACE 250 AS IS!!!!!!!!!!!! (Do need a Garrett hat though.)

Why not a small way-point GPS, for us old codgers who sometimes get so involved that we can't find the car at the end of the day. Bushnell makes a small GPS which can be put on a key chain, cost about $75.00.

I think the Garrett will head for a multi-frequency detector. One that will have similar qualities of the Vision. I think the multi-frequency detectors would have better discrimination between junk and quality targets as well as depth. Also a multi-frequency would be better at discriminating masked targets as well as recovery speed. (nail vs coin next to each other) How they show it on the display it is up to your own imagination as well as mine. Another wish-list idea would be VDI numbers to help discriminate between targets. I also think that would be a "given" with a multi-frequency detector. I think Garrett probably has some ideas working and only time will tell what they are. I hope they can do of this and keep the price of the detector reasonable versus return of investment. I've had my 1500 a year and haven't recouped the cost of it ..........yet. Others have had better luck. I've been just a week end warrior.

P.S. I think I just described a Vision and E-Trac ...... Sorry Garrett........Who's on First ?

The backlight, 24 segment graph are great ideas. The only thing I would add is an in between coil (like a 3"X6") for coinshooters and a switch to toggle between "sound of money" bong (that turns so many newbies off) and a "high tone pitch" for coins.

I think their treasure vision should be kept but refined more. Also run on hot duel frequencies and faster clock speed between targets. Number Id as well as the graphic target analyzer bar on the screen. Run with a hot DD coil or for that matter a new hotter coil design that would punch deep in to the soil. Put it in a small package like the Fisher 75 or Teknetics T2 with a nice trigger for pinpointing and I think you'll have a winner.

Phone jack on the face rather than where it is.
A water proof unit with the pinpoint alavability.
Change the color to dark green\black.

This is for a new high end detector aimed at experienced detectorists .....

Lighter in weight than the GTI series - detector with batteries should weigh in at about 3.5 pounds.

Large (say 11") DD coil to maximize detection footprint at depth.

Better audio system. The GTI's have an automatic gain system on their audio so small or deep targets sound the same as large and or shallow ones. Would prefer a variable gain setting with weak target boost so you could set the audio gain so you can get some additional information about the target just by listening.

The audio system should also feature different modes, mono tone, and several step multi-tone - for example there should be a 2 tone option so all iron targets have a low tone and all non ferrous targets have a higher tone with the higher the conductivity the higher the tone, then perhaps a 3 or 4 tone system with optional bell tone for coin targets.

The target imaging feature should be retained but perhaps with some more increments. It would be nice if they could get it to work with a DD design but I understand if it was only an option on concentric coil designs.

I would also like to see some sort of signal strength over time graphic similar in nature to the "ground radar" feature on Newforce Cscope R1. That way end users could learn to distinguish targets by the waveform of the signals they generate.

I would also like to see a VDI style target ID with a 100 point scale say 0-99.

I would also like to see some user selectable filtering options for example when discrimination is enable the end user should be able to choose from several different processing options, perhaps a single filter mode, a dual filter mode, a mode where coin range signals are boosted and ferrous targets are limited. Hopefully the engineers at Garrett can think up some better filter options than I have listed.

Of course and all metal mode, but the all metal mode should still ID targets on the VDI.

The pinpoint function should be moved to a trigger, it is currently difficult to keep the pressure pad depressed on the GTI machines when wearing heavy gloves - not all of us live in Texas where it is that warm for much of the year.

I would also like to see a user selectable multi-frequency design. Sort of like the Minelab xterra but without the need to swap in separate coils to change the frequency. That way you could select say 6 KHz if you are in low mineralized soils and want maximum depth, maybe 13 Khz if you want better resolution, and say 20 Khz if you are nugget shooting or looking for fine gold chains. You should also be able to switch into a mode where the machine can use multiple frequencies at once for use in heavy mineralized soils or at salt water beaches. In this mode it should be user selectable if the frequencies are combined or presented separately for the purposes of target ID.

That everything I can think of off the top of my head......

If multifrequency will tell the difference between rings and junk then I want that. On fish finders you can see images of whats on the bottom, why not on metal detectors? I love the sizing technology I have with my 1350, maybe expound on that. I also would really like to have some sort of GPS on my machine. I would travel to other towns/cities/states and it would be nice to enter GPS coordinates to mark good spots in areas that I may not be very familiar in. But, I must also say that I am still learning my 1350 and this machine is the most advanced tector that I have ever owned and for the time being I am very happy with what I have.

Light like the ACE, water proof, exceptional depth with imaging capabilities, an extra tone for higher conductivity targets, accurate discrimination, optional ground balance and simplicity! The "BEST" detector should not require a computer degree to figure out out how to use it.

I like The "KISS" Principle......KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID!

Oh yeah! An "Iron Mask" feature would be great, too. You know, like some of the Minelabs have.

I would like a machine to be light weight, like the Ace 250. Have the head phone jack in the rear of the unit like the F75. I would like the unit to have a back light screen for detecting at night. Would like it to have an active all metal motion mode like the F75. Also the unit would need to get the kind of battery life that the Ace 250 gets with 4 AA's. Also would have to have SUPER ACE 250 circuitry. In other words an Ace 250 on steriods. That would suit me just fine.
