Gold Bug SE -Tek G2

The G2 has a self tracking mode and is aimed at the European markets. Other then that and configuration I think it is the same machine. I have the new gold bug, before they started calling them the SE and can see no difference between the two other than name. I dont have the 11 dd coil for it yet but it does pretty good with the 5" and gets great target seperation. Its a pretty hot little machine for the price. Would love to compare some air tests to a new SE to see if theirs any really differences. If Anyone is iterested let me know.

The G2 has not been released to production yet, although I expect that to happen this month. Its standard coil will be the 11 inch DD. Performance/functional differences between it and the SE will be minor: those details will be evolving right up to the ship date so I will refrain from discussing them until the G2 is actually shipping. However regarding this "self tracking mode" that I see someone's posted, I am not expecting the G2 to have that.

I have both Gold Bug versions....depth is the same. if yours was bought from Cabela's then the audio is not modulated and it would seem to be a bit deeper than an SE with modulated audio. However I have been testing both for months ( well months on the Cabela's). In the end they are the same in depth.
I prefer the Cabelas audio for relic hunting in fields as I don't care to know how deep anything is by audio as it meens nothing to me and it is way easier to hear deep targets without modulation.
In areas with modern trash and celar holes the SE with modulated audio is way better as you can ignore shallow trash if you choose...by the audio response.
In the end though the depth is identical. All other functions are identical as well as far as the user can tell.

azsh07 that's good to know about the modulated vs non-modulated GB, you make two great cases for with and without modulation. It would be a good feature to be able to let the user toggle on or off like the Fisher CZ's with the volume control. Disappointing to hear the auto tracking isn't going to make it into production.
These kinds of things drive me crazy about the new First Texas machines. Why not go all out and offer these extra features
They could be a big deal to some users, and features like auto tracking and modulated/non-modulated audio are just software tweaks, which apparently are already developed, so implementation costs would be almost nothing, yet features like these could be priceless to some customers.

..be able to trun on and off modulated audio.....like the CZ''s had that volume control that did just that. I think they probably added the modulation to the SE as an enhancement over the Cabela's version. Also I think it may help the prospectors with ground responses. I wish I had the SE version while I was still in Az prospecting as I was the first to use the GB Cabela's out there and found it had a bit of trouble with hot bedrock. The modulation should help I think. Other than that it was very good as a prospecting machine.
Ground tracking is kind of a funny thing. Some like it and many people turn it off as it can track out a target. To....I like it if I have several options with it. One..be able to turn ity off....I would never ever want autotrac constantly enabled. Second is to have some control of track inhibit and GB offset. Third is autotrac speed.
With these options it is nice to have autotrac but like the LobO ST you do not have the last two...hated it.
So for them to put in autotrac they would have to include other features mentioned to keep the machine multi use applicable. Straight autotrac without adjustments is a nightmare in rusty iron.
For a pure fantasy gold/relic machine I would love to see a machine like the SE with the features of the George Pain GoldTraxx module....oh gees...what a machine. The Goldtraxx is awesome but too heavy and bulky no matter what you do. But take those features for control over the GB, SAT, Track and the SE's setup....man...............then again...we would be back up to a grand for a machine. But..would be nice.

My bad I was looking at the advertisement that I found at detectorstuff under the tek forum. I mistook auto tune for auto track! Sorry Dave thanks for setting things straight. This is the first Ive heard of the modulated tones that is great to know. I just watched the video of the Gb se on the beach and tones was the first thing I noticed! The second was he was able to get his sensitivity all the way to max. I cant get mine past half way without falseing. Is this what the problem has been with them and why some have had to go back for calibration? I just thought I had a hot machine! If someone could let me know about this I would greatly appreciate it! Also are the cabellas machines able to be updated to the sound modulation ?

I suggest you send it back. My unit runs super stable at gain 100, runs extremely well in the dry AND wet salt sand/suds here in NJ. Took it to a beach the other day loaded with iron and nails and it just breezed through. Since the beach was sanded in, all I found was about $3.70 in clad and a big nitro earring but it found a lot of deep dimes in between the iron.
All you have to do when you go from dry to wet is re-ground as the dry GB is about 30-40 where as the wet salt sand is almost at 0. I find that when the unit gets a little squirrly I just re-ground, use the manual override if I want it spot on ( seems my Gold Bug ground balances on the wet sand a little negative) and off I go.
Like I stated in an earlier post...I can't praise it enough as a dry sand/wet sand beach hunter. The Gold Bug is the unit I am grabbing first to hunt due to a lot of things other than it's performance, So light and I can swing fast or slow and recovery speed is awesome.

Thanks Therover, the vid was great! even though I cant get my sensitivity to full I still get awesome depth, I just received the 11 dd today and WOW I air test a 1.2 gram nugget at 6 inches and a silver dollar at about 13 to 14". Your right about target separation Ive taken nails and checked for recovery speed as seen in you tube vids. first thing I noticed was fisher was in a class all its own!
I took it a step or two further. I can line up 4 nails and stick a nail through a gold ring and two nails after, set the disc to ignore the nails and still get the ring. Ive had my gb for 8 months and it amazes me the amount of targets Ive dug from under nails. Today I played around on a old road for relics I found several horse shoe and shoe parts but one I got was about 15 inches down and was only a small part of a oxen or mule shoe, this might not sound so amazing but two days before i was playing with my sand shark In the exact area and didn't have a clue it was there. Dave Johnson has said this machine has the best front end he has ever designed HANDS DOWN. (THANKS DAVE) Now that they are getting on the market I am pleased to see other detectorists feeling the same way. As far as the sound modulation I am kinda thinking I like mine the way it is, the computer assigns a tone at a set volume. I get a strong signal on targets that at the same depth in all metal are just a whisper. Its one sweet little machine for the $$$. Next on the list is a ski run that has not been used in over 50 years. It was a small tow line but was used allot back then. Sorry this is so long winded !!
