Gold comes to me again!

Went out for a hunt to one of my usual places that I hadn't been to in awhile. Found a few wheats and clad. As per usual...I get a good signal 12-41. Dug this up and thought it was 18kt. When I got home cleaned it up more and was quirked a bit as I thought it was 18kt gold fill. Put it in my collection and really looked at it today....to find out it wasn't 18kt gold fill at all....it was 10kt and not gold fill. Some of those marks are really hard to see even with a really good lighted magnifying glass. In any case, I'm happy!

Also found a 1934 Canadian penny with a buddy of mine that took me to a site.

Ive been keeping good track of my numbers on the etrac. Whenever, it finds gold....it locks on....no jumping around. The numbers can be from 12-08 to 12-42 but it locks on. I have dug thousands of holes looking for that deep ring or coin, when the numbers jump around,,,its a pull tab or similar, most of the time. Other things can lock on as well...but usually number give them away as what they are. Also, it seems like the better the target, the more stable the signal is and the more consistent the numbers are....so generally speaking... lousy signal and numbers... equate to a lousy target.

I'm sure there are exceptions to this but generally speaking this it what happens when I use the etrac.

Congratulations on the gold ring James, and thanks for the information on the id numbers for gold being stable. -- Randy

Your welcome!

Im sure different soil will make a difference. Ive noticed that the heavy clay here with a good deal of mineralization really cuts down on the depth of targets. When I get into some decent soil....I can pick up a nickel or dime at 8 inches...in clay its cut to 4-5inches. Pennies are the worse bouncers but once you know the numbers and they pop up several times....you can rest assured that its a penny. Dimes and nickels do it too but not quite as much..

As I said, when it comes to gold...etrac tends to lock on and usually in the 11/12 - 20/40s. Most of the rings I get are in this area. Other jewelry could be lower numbers on the conductive scale. Again, if it locks on...with those numbers...its usually jewelry. If it is 12-01 to 12-04 its usually foil. Ive found some tiny lockets that came in at 12-08 but that the lowest numbers Ive gotten. Im sure others could happen. If it locks on 12-15 12-18 12-19 its usually a pull tab basically on the surface. Im sure there is a piece of gold that would be at these numbers as well....I just havent found it. If it bounces like 12-30 9-29 2-30 or similar...its a pull tab. I suppose someday I will find a really deep ring that does bounce like that but at the present...if it locks on....I just got to dig it.

Congrats James,

Awesome finds and thanks for the ID numbers. I've got quite the foil and tab collection looking for that elusive gold.

Thanks for the post,

Moose
