I downloaded the pattern and tested it a bit on my E-Trac . . . . . here are a few comments:
1) As the section in the books discusses, the true value of this pattern was far greater in the early-2000 time frame than it is now simply due to the number of other hunters using FBS detectors that can reach the goodies at depth. Not to say that the pattern does not work or have merit, but again as I say in the book "
The value of this pattens is no limited to beaches which are not hunted on a regular basis but can still produce exceptional results in the right location." What I mean is that if you have limited time and find a beach that has not been hunted in a while leaving a number of coins in addition to the jewelry present, focus on the gold and leave the coins for the next few trips . . . that worked very well for a number of people when I first discussed it in the original book and a good amount of gold was found - one guy in Kentucky pulled out over 200 rings from local sites in 2001 alone.
2) In the case of Tybee Island, you will not be the first or even the 100th person to hunt the area . . . as a matter of fact a co-worker of mine just came back from a week stay with one of my Explorer's he had borrowed . . . . . . 3 gold rings and some coins but he indicated that it was clear he was not the first one there with a detector - he ran into 2 other hunters and could see holes in the wet sand region when he did get out. Is it hunted out? Most certainly no and more stuff gets lost each day . . . one of his rings was found on the 3rd sweep after he stepped out onto the sand.
3) The E-Trac will have the FE value dragged down on very deep targets . . . . just a fact which makes you have to consider that when building patterns. You will find that 12" coins are not a fish tale in wet sand with the Pro Coil so depth affects are something to consider (see page 79 in the book). Therefore, here is how I wold recommend hunting Tybee Island going there on a vacation:
- Start out loading the pattern I have attached that I use often for coin hunting.
- Modify it by editing it to accept the region on the left side of the screen that is currently rejected to accept FE = 03 down to FE = 15 and all of the associated CO values . . . but leave the CO = 01 line rejected the entire left side of the screen as it will let the detector run quieter in wet sand
- Hunt the area with the pattern as described. You will hear and see coins but then use the best discriminator out there - your brain - to decide if you want to recover it or not. If you have not dug anything in the last 30 minutes, a deep quarter may be quite welcome
I do not think you will be so strapped for time or inundated with targets that you need to run with a pattern as tight as what you have built. If you want to use the pattern, to get around the issue of deep targets skewing the FE values, simply go into edit and for each CO value you currently have accepted, accept the FE range from "04" down to "22" . . . . . when you get a signal that reads in the high teens, check the depth and if it is deep, go for it for the FE movement reason.
Hopefully this made sense . . . for the specific application you are looking at, I would make a few changes . . . . if you want to talk specifics on the pattern or Tybee Island, shoot me a PM and we can hook up to talk about it.
