Gold Specimen

I've posted this before but I thought I would share again while waiting for my next gold/silver ring and jewellery that I have to find!!! It's been a bit of a gold 'drought' here meaning I've not been able to detect as many rings etc; as I have wanted to so far this year.....BUT....the temps; are still in the 80's here and that means people are still going to the beach so I keep on detecting!
This gold 'specimen' comes from a gold mine that my wife's great grandfather used to own in Death Valley, California in the 1800's. I feel like I'm holding a piece of great American history, realising at the same time all the blood, sweat and tears that men gave in search of this precious metal! There is something about the 'yellow stuff' that is addicting though wouldn't you agree?

Sorry Akita! I've noticed a lull in people posting photographs of their finds lately on this particular forum. It wasn't always that way and to be honest, I for one really enjoy seeing what comes out of the ground. Seeing what others are finding keeps my energy level high and my desire to get out there and swing that detector even more than I do...so.....just sharing! and hope more will share their 'treasure's'!

The question to be asked is how deep in the ground was that quartz vein found?

You can poke aound on the surface forever and not be anywhere's near the vein that these miners exploited....

In Sacramento there's an exhibit of gold nuggets and gold in quartz.... Will get your heart pumping and make you want to drive out t the American river and find placer gold...

I am new to MDing but had a nice find that I posted on another sight that meet with some rather nasty remarks and even more IM's from very rude people so I don't normally post. Kinda gun shy now. This sight seems much Friendlier so if I do make any finds worth mentioning in the future I might try again to share.

Dread, folks here are always anxious to see what others are finding. We especially like to watch new folks grow into the hobby. Please post away!

Dont think I will ever be lucky enough to get anything even close to that chunk of yeller metal but I am sure gonna try. Thats the stuff dreams are made of,,, my dreams anyways. LOL Fantastic find, Maybe someday I will grow up into a full fledged MDer and get some goodies.

Hi Goldstrik
I am curious, did you ever go over that gold quarts with you're Safari? If you did what was the reading?
