Gold, the Safari and Questions

So being new to the world of Metal detecting I have a few questions. I'm thinking of purchasing a Safari (Uncle Sam will fund this venture with a tax return) and from what I have read they are great machines. One thing I have not been able to read about is their ability to pick up gold nuggets. I understand that a Gold machine would work better for this but for now I'm looking for a machine that would work all around. Mostly I would be relic and coin hunting but there is a good stream that has placer gold near where I live. Would the Safari be able to handle It? Or would I be better off with a Xterra 705? I have read good things about them being able to pick up small nuggets well. One of the other reasons I like the Safari is the ability to add on the Sun-Ray X-1 probe. I really just looking for some advice. Also this is a great form. Thanks alot

For Relic Hunting and Coin Shooting the Safari is a great choice. I have found gold jewelry with my Safari but have'nt been around any gold nuggets here in east TN. My brother is a retired jeweler and have used some small pieces from repairs he has done in the past for just an air test. The Sun Ray 5 will hit on a small piece a little larger than a BB about 2.5 inches. The Pro-Coil is not as clear. But that is an air test. My Safari does not air test well in the house but performs really well in the field. I really believe if that coil goes across gold it will respond well. This probably didn't help you one bit, just my 2 cents. Good Luck with whatever choice you make. HH:minelab:

Most placer gold is dust... Nuggets be rare indeed..
