Pulled some good stuff today from a fairly large state park in my area which allows MD as long as you fill out a quick registration card each time you visit...no fee either. Earlier on I was at another state park and was run off by a really nice park ranger and maintenance guy. Both apologized for the misinformation on the website which says MD is ok. Whatever. The best part is that I pulled the two one dollar coins out in the five minutes I was there. The Sac I slipped into my pocket right as the maintenance person rolled up. He seemed to relax more when I gave him a "do not duplicate" master key that I had found two minutes before at three inches.

I scored one 1949 S wheat, one Sacajawea dollar, one commemorative Zach Taylor dollar and a nice boy scout scarf ring (my second one, not sure what you call them).

Ok, now that I have gotten that out there...I tried to sneak it in. Part of me didn't want to tell a soul but the other part of thought well, that's no fun.

So how the heck did this happen? I was at the state park, got out of my truck and leaned it up against the side of my truck bed, upright, not one foot from my door. Then the ranger comes driving up and I decide I should have a talk with him being that it was my first trip to the park. Plus I wanted to turn in my MD registration card. As we finish our conversation he stops me right as I'm about to get into my truck...thus turning my back on e-trac. He says, "hey, that's the girls map," He was also trying to give directions to a couple women at the same time and had accidentally given me their map but I swear he had gotten it from his truck? In my puzzlement I slide right into my truck without turning back around. Next thing I know my left front tire finds me lifted a few inches in the air....I'm thinking what? There's no curb here? Then $1800 worth of terror rips through me. What have I done!?! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! The first thing that goes through my mind is control panel, sunray or coil?? Which is it going to be or some combination of both? Turns out that carbon fiber shaft is insanely strong in order to hold my truck up like that.

So yeah, after I assessed the situation and only realized it was the lower shaft, I put the broken end in my truck, shortened the length of my e-trac and off I went. As I began to metal detect I could not stop laughing and how DUMB I'd been and at HOW LUCKY I'd gotten.

I'm going to see if I can change my used name to IDIOT or GWROHEWHT (guy who runs over his e-trac with his truck) or man who should never have kids or let me borrow your e-trac...trust me. I do considered myself however to be the president/ceo of an elite club of extraordinary individuals that have backed over their e-tracs with a vehicle. I am currently looking for new members if anyone is interested...

So at the moment it is repaired. It may not be pretty but I feel it will work for a good long time. I've got a total of 8 screws in it. Feels solid and works just like before. I don't think there's been much additional weight as the entire dowel before I cut it was as light as a feather. By the way does anyone know what a lower shaft would cost me? I'm afraid to inquire on a $1500 machine.
 
You got real lucky. The lower rod is one of the cheapest parts. Around $50.00

About your club, I can join as a partial member. Never before mentioned!!!! Just a few months after getting my ET I went up into the mountains to visit some friends at a tourmaline mine. I had an old couch that they wanted so I put it in the back of my truck, set my equipment beside it and off I went. On the way up to the mine I went by some old deer hunting camps, hey there's a spot for some old coins maybe! Shifted into 4X4 mode, and forged ahead. Pulled in under some big old oaks and opened the camper shell to get my ET, It's gone!:yikes: No it isn't silly, it just has an 8' hide a bed couch sitting on it. Tore the rubber computer port thingy off, now held on with tape, scratched the screen, a few bumps and bruises,:cry: good as new! Kind-a. If I ever have to send it in I will have it all replaced and looking good again. So bummed out I only gave the old site a quick once over. Hum, maybe this year I will retry it, couple feet of snow up there now.
