britt smith from tesoro emailed me saying YES they are working on a new detector :clapping: she didnt give me any details but she said we'll just have to wait and see. HH, cladking

Wow !!! can't wait to see what I'll be adding to my Tesoro family.(sidewinder and bandido II umax) Good news indeed .

But on the bright side, getting rid of the knobs and toggle switches would keep the cost down.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but they said that in 2007 too, on the official Tesoro forum. So it could still be a while.

I hope it's soon. Would love to see a new Tesoro hit the market. I'm a huge Tesoro fan and have come back full circle to Tesoro and I'm here to stay. Whenever they do come out with a new machine I'll be in line for one!! :detecting:

but a combination of the two like the Fisher and Tek units would be ok with me.
I grew up with knobs and switches. Would rather physically see where my settings are at rather than scroll thru menus.

Its taken Tesoro close to 2 yrs. to fix a leaky coupling, which they still havent resolved, they must do it, or there life time warranty means squat. Now there coming out with a new detector, all there doing is stalling for time. I say there going out of business

Maybe they're working on more then 1 new machine? The last time they released anything (2004) they released 2 machines. Wouldn't that be exciting. They should show their hand before everyone buys that new Garrett machine!!

I've talked to Britt before, she's a very friendly and helpful young lady.

If she says Tesoro is working on a new detector that's good news because it means Tesoro is not planning on standing pat with their current lineup.

I speculated on another thread that because of the high cost of R&D, maybe Tesoro was done bringing out new machines.

I'd be thrilled to death to see Tesoro come out with a great new machine to make me and my speculation look foolish.

I'm surprised that they would reveal that info to anyone. They usually keep their cards pretty close to their chests. If true, I'm sure it will be interesting.

I really hope they stay true to Tesoro design excellence and not try to compete with machines with too much info on the screen.

I hope they offer ar really refined audio machine with a few, but not too many audio options and perhaps some sort of meter, perhaps not... only if it is stable and accurate (like the 180 meter on the Minelab SovereighGT)... and SIMPLE.. I am tired of complicated detectors that are hard to learn and IMO one reason Tesoro users find som much good stuff is because they, in most cases, learn the audio and actually dig targets that the competion's detectors screen says is junk... but it isn't. Good audio and a digger still rule the roost... everything else can and does get in the way.

Perhaps a unit that is switchable between ED-120 and ED-180... really I hope it does NOT have a VDI screen, just the most enhanced audio available today. A low/hig user definable breakpoint.

But.. if they do go with a VDI screen I hope they forget traditional TID numbers and offer a switchable dual frequency, one in the 7khz range and another in the 17khz to 19khz range and a push trigger (a la Tejon) to switch between the two. That would ROCK IMO... but to make it useful to the max... forget traditional or normalized TID numbers and offer raw TID numbers on each that would result in an expanded high conductivity range on the lower freq and expanded lower conductive range on the higher frequency... then a display screen would display something really useful and at the push of the trigger.

Have an option to have the GB automatically set itself slightly high (when pumping the coil) of course the user could lower it manually if needed. Of course waterproof and a slat compensate would be a huge plus... as long as it stays simple

I'm sure they have a design well underway by now though... but still, I hope they stay with Tesoro simplicity and don't go trying to make something really complicated. I really do not need a screen on a Tesoro... HD audio can and will, if learned, trump any VDI any day of the week. VDI more often than not can discourage one from recovering a target.

Well... I will sell some stuff and be ready and hope that it is something that I want...if not I can always buy a Compadre.

quality, ease of use in many different conditions and lifetime warranty are what they seem to be about. I'm fairly new to detecting myself but have followed the sport for a few years now. I'm a shrewd consumer and unfortunately must manage my money (what little of it I have) very closely.I think a new machine would be nice but on the other hand if it aint broke don't fix it. Some of the other brands are so "high tech" I wonder if they take the fun out of the sport? I hope Tesoro stays in business for a very long time.:lmfao:

I feel as though a Golden Sabre updated with Tejon power would be a good move on Tesoro's part.

take care
