Got my new LTD all muddy, today.

HI, all:

Picked up my new F 75 LTD a week ago today and it has rained every day since. Today was a light mist, and cool, but I couldn't contain myself any longer. I drove to a pounded civil war site to give it it's first test. This spot has been hunted by as many as 50 peiople at a time via club hunts. I've been using an F 75 for over two years, so I knew this wasn't going to be THAT different. Started in 0 disc, 2F tones, but found too much trash, so went to 6 disc 1 tone for optimum unmasking. I got several loud, bullet like signals, but found pieces of foil about the size of my little finger nail at six inches. I finally figured out to check the signals in all metal. If they sounded "small", they weren't bullets. I went to the spot where the camp evidently was (the most iron nail infested spot in the field. Had the sensitivity set a 85, and it ran reasonably smooth. I was getting quite a bit of falsing from the nails, but could tell by hitting a signal from all four directions, it was trash. I did get a couple of good signals that sounded off. Deepest was a five inch .69 cal minie. About six feet away from it I dug a perfect general service button. Don't find a lot of buttons in these parts. Especially one that is whole, with a straight shank and not dented. Also found a bullet I couldn't identify. It's a .44 cal. flat base with three rings. It was shot. Can't say I wouldn't have found these with my old F 75. Tomorrow I'm traveling to a camp I know has deep stuff in it and is fairly deep in grass. We shall see how it works there. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks for looking and keep on diggin'

Yes. Boost setting. Forgot to mention that, but, then, that's is the point of the LTD, isn't it:clapping: Didn't show a pic of the muddy LTD. Didn't want to embaress the old girl:cheekkiss: Hopefully, some deeeeep relics, tomorrow.

keep on diggin'

I'm just curious on how well the rain covers work on the detector. Do you take extra precautions? Plastic Bag? Also I have a rookie question. What is the difference between "0" in discrimination mode and running in all medal mode?

No extra precaustions. All metal goes deeper. In disc. you get your choice of tones.

I have been in the same boat with all this damn rain!........but I think it's time to bag 'er up & get mine all muddy too! Then it will really be camouflaged..... ;)
HH,

I haven't seen anything but the bad artists renditions on the F75 just wondered if they looked as bad as I imagine..

But it's more of a flat paint job rather than glossy.
Not sure about the T2 LTD yet.......I had a choice, but was figuring the F75 LTD would cover all the bases & then some.....
But, nothings been cooperating for me to get some test reports on it yet........Now I'm dealing with snow flakes here!:throw:, but hopefully I can experiment further again tomorrow & post some feedback........

They look so cool I wear camo when I hunt I do wish they made the coil and stem camo

Rain covers came with mine. They look the same as the ones for the T2/F75.

I have been thinking about what NASA Tom said about running in 0 disc befroe he really began to make new finds and that confused me since 0 disc is the bottom of the iron range and he was digging a lot of non-ferrous from a sanatized site...

I called FT and talked to an engineer about it and something else. He told me that at extreme depth the TID will drop enough to put non-ferrous into the iron range but it will still be a repeatable signal. I had assumed that Tom was just digging the non-ferrous but maybe he was digging everything, i'm still not certain but that is the way it was explained to me.

Also I have dug one way signals with the E-TRAC that had a repeatable good number (33) on the conductive side but only from one direction, One was a carved minnie. So if it sounds good enough and if the number is close enough to what I think might be there I am digging even if it ig good only one way, especially in iron... I don't recommend it for everyone but I can't help myself...

The other question I asked the engineer was about running BP or CL mode in all metal. The manual isn't really clear on it but all you do is select BP or CL, then scroll back to to top and toggle over to AM. It will still be in BP or CL mode and in AM mode too.

I have not been abla to figure out how to temporarily enable DE mode to check a target when I am in BP or CL mode. The manual says something about pressing and holding the button or knob (I don't have the manual in front of me) either one doesn't seem to do it for me though unless i'm not doing it right. I guess this function is for those of us who know the original very well and want to compare the BP or CL to the original DE before digging and to see if the original would hit the target. I assume I will be swinging slowly in BP or CL and when I get it switched to DE I will swing as fast as possible to see if I get the hit.

I REALLY love the slower response on the BP and CL, I may like CL better but I think you have to swing it even slower. I think that getting long time F75 users to slow down enough in CL or BP may be a challenge but we gon' hafta really slow the swing in CL and BP to get the best results from it. I think CL in trash needs a Sovereign sort of swing speed... and that is S-L-O-W.......

I am going to, hopefully, get out to the park today for the first time. I've only been able to check targets so far but I did notice that even airtesting targets, they ID better if you move them slower when in CL or BP... and a fair piece farther away from the coil. I think I am going to like CL best because I like to swing slow anyway...

Jimmy, I wish you'd dig some of those deep small iron hits and a few of the better hits that are only one way. I'm interested to see if any are good, just partly masked.

They look good! I think they did a good job on it and I like it... even though camo isn't my thing. It has a bit of a "Bubba" thing going on though I don't care as long as it is the best machine in it's class, maybe the best vlf machine ever!

Maybe right now flourescent orange would be a safer choice... laff.

Julien Just hold the RED menu button down and continue to hold while you go back over the target. The screen will not tell you that you are in that mode but electonically you are. I really done see any advantage in this for it most of the time can't read what you have found in the pb/cl mode. IF it is deep it just won't see it to tell you anything, if it is shallow you will get readings and maybe a cleaner ID. If you REALLY want to something different try this --- Take the 5 in dd coil and use it in the cl mode for a real surprize in depth, I'm a relic hunter and love to find the heavy iron areas, and this method will really get you between the iron, and the depth equal to or better than the 11 dd in this senerio. I will not say anymore just give it a try either in the field or better yet do a bench test, not always a good indication, but it will give you a feel for what I'm saying, The 5 in in CL can be the relic hunters dream mode, even though it is slow going but the rewards are REALLY TERRIFIC...

Hold the red button and you are in DE mood release and you are back in boost

Thanks...

I am looking for an actual picture..

I think the camo is MIGHTY COOL----I love the "BAD BOY" handle he's already acquired---and the wife & I got a real laugh out of Juliens "BUBBA"-----So now, mine's got the name. "BUBBA BAD BOY" (or "BBB" for short)!!! ---Now all I gotta do is see if he & I (or maybe rather, I) can "cut the mustard" as a team effort!! :clapping:  -------Del

I do a crazy close up of the face plate/LCD camo in an "outake" at the end :)
Kinda corny, but I left it anyhow & you'll be able to see it there.....
