Got out for a short hunt today...

my buddy called and told me he had permission to hunt an older home in town. He'd already been there earlier and didn't find anything but pennies. He said the site was pretty trashy. I put the 8in coil on my Explorer and left to pick my friend up. My friend doesn't get to hunt much so as always when I hunt his site I asked him where he'd already hunted. I started there and the first coin I dug was the half. He was right, the site was trashy but I managed a few clad coins and then found the IH. I feel kinda bad when I hunt someone else's site and go along behind them and find the goodies. I tried to get him to hunt with no discrimination on his XLT and use the tone ID but he said he couldn't take the noise. We had to leave after I found the IH but will be going back in a day or two. This place has been hunted before but I'm sure there are more goodies there as most people around here hunt using a lot of discrimination. It may be noisy but I've only hunted in iron mask -16 with ferrous tones for the past 5yrs and it has paid off.

Love seeing Halves come out of the dirt. Nice looking Indian Head also. Congrats! Good Luck and HH when you return to that site.:detecting:

I usually get at least one or two WL halves a year. We went back today and my buddy got a nice barber qtr. We didn't stay long, my friend just had a cancerous kidney removed a month ago(he's 70) and I don't want to tire him out. Tried to get him to let me dig his targets but he won't let me. Bill has detected for almost 40yrs but doesn't get out much anymore so when we hunt together I let him have first crack at the hunting grounds. My Explorer always manages to find some deeper coins after he goes thru with his XLT.

Very nice Phil...

Good hunting next time !

it would work well at this site. I had to set my sensitivity from 16-20 manual to work well in the heavier trash. I even broke down and hauled out the MXT with mini-shooter coil to check the very worst parts. Normally when I'm using my 8in coil I run a manual sensitivity from 24-28 without trouble. I'm heading back there this morning before the storms get here and hunt an hour or so. I'm going to search the area my buddy found a barber qtr yesterday.

If you back down on the sens. then you will virtually shrink its over all coverage....Lose depth..... but will be able to have better seperation between close targets....and maybe sneak up on an Indian close to other targets....have you ever notice when you have a big coil on and have it cranked up on sens. you can't get too close to fences or cars...etc....but if you lower your sens. you can get closer.....same as targets in ground.....
