I went to a hard hard hunted park today,,, I hunted and kept hunting for about a 2 hours and digging about 7 nails, i finally got a repeatable coin signal,,, I dug down about 7 inches and pulled to wheat's,, a 1944 and a 1939.. After diggin the wheat's,, i walked over to a area that is trashy,, but i have pulled Indians there before.... I ran the SEF over the ground for about a half hour and finally got a another coin signal... I dug down and about 6 inches pulled a Indian,,,, I could see the back clear, and didn't even check the date... I just put it in my pocket figuring it was a late 1800's to an early 1900's Indian,,, When i got home and ran some water over it 1873 became real clear!!!!! I was really surprised that my Indian books for around $20... That was the only decent thing i found all morning,,,, I still liking the SEF coil.... So far i noticed that it separates AWESOME i have pulled a number of thing with nails in the hole... I haven't pulled anything 15 or 16 inches as some others have, but i did find a coin about 9 inches, and it sounded great... I'm sure it will go deeper, i just haven't walked over them deep deepies yet!!!! lol Take care and good luck

Good find! I notice the same type of performance from my little sunray 5" coil, just not quite as deep. I need to get me a bigger coil.
 
nice patina on your Indian Head! the last few i've found have been crusty & didn't clean up too good. do you have black soil in Richmond? we have mostly clay & limestone here in Bloomington.

i use a SunRay Stealth X-8 and i like it a lot--but then i've never used the SEF, so i guess i don't know what i'm missing. smaller coils are the only way to go in the woods...i got out for an hour yesterday but all i got was a '51 wheatie & a '48 nickel.

thanks for posting your finds! you're doing great, especially considering it's February!

Im finding those DEEP targets here in Florida, but... no minerals or EMI to deal with in the sand to speak of. Great finds.... you know ive yet to find an indian head in the park at Fortville, Ind. Gotten old silver, but no indians. Looks like you are going to have a great year. Your settings and that coil is really paying off. Thats a really good looking indian congrats.
 
I love finding those. Heck I like finding any old coins. I just got my SEF a while back but other than bench testing, haven't been able to get out in the wild because of the weather. I'm definitely jonesing to get out in the field and use it. It's encouraging to hear that the SEF is picking them out of the trash. I can think of a few spots that fit that bill and I'm looking forward to ferreting out a few keepers. Nice job on the Indian - 136 years old ain't too shabby!

Indian's are one of my favorites to find. You're doing good with that SEF. Keep filling us in.

That looks just like the one I lost there. Just send it north about 30 miles and we'll call it even.LOL I can't wait to hook up with you and your buddies, I want to see that SEF coil in action. It sure sounds like a winning combination with your Explorer

Im sorry i haven't replied to any ones question,,, My Computer too a dump on me so i haven't been able to get on :rant: But again thanks!!!!!! I got out yesterday and dug a 1916 s barber dime, a 1910 V nickel and a sterling silver heart charm!!! I will post pics soon... I'm on a buddies computer.... And yes some places in around Richmond have a little rich black soil... But like yours,,,, Alot of clay sangaman... Again thanks everyone,,, and GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!

Not just Tim, I fell in darned hole too, they had to go to a coal mine and get some equipment to get me out...I knew I was in trouble when that helicopter could only get down half way. Next time I will carry a 200 foot rope with me!!:yikes:
 
HAHA whatever guys!!!!! Tim complains about my holes being big... But its hard to dig down twelve inches in a 5 inch hole... If he would put that DFX away he would figure that out lol
