Got some stuff this week end.

Hey man......yes that definitely looks like a lawnmower hit....but the silver we've found is oddly not bent in any way shape or form......COIN EATER or LAND SHARK????

You are exactly right on the Reel type mower theory. A coin hit with one of the gang Reel mowers pulled by a tractor like you see on golf courses could easily slice thru a coin. That's what they used to use in the parks years ago. The single blade mowers are the one's that put the Deep dents in the edges of coins.

I've always thought it was people messing around as the cuts on the many cut dimes I've found (only Mercs and Rosies) seem to be very clean - how did these mowers perform the cutting of the grass, like a scissor?

The blades shear much like scissor blades. The rotary blades rotate and come into contact with a fixed blade at the ground level.

Thanks for the info....funny that we don't seem to find clipped cents as cents were probably dropped much more frequently than dimes. The cents I've found that have been hit my mowers are usually not cut all the way through or bent. I wonder what would have happened when a cent go caught in one of those things. Anyone have any fully clipped cents? I myself have never found one.

On the lawnmower theory because I've never found a cent cut in half, but many silver dimes; however Landshark is still a possibility!
