Greetings from AZ, newbie here. QDP on the way.

Hello all...been 'lurking' and reading as much as I can for the past few days...was pretty much sold on getting a Land Ranger Pro but finances demanded I get the Quik Draw Pro instead...that, and there was a $30 coupon on Amazon, so with the free shipping it was a no-brainer and the QDP will be on the way here soon. Hopefully I haven't sacrificed too many needed features by going with the QDP but I do love the fact the new Pro Series takes only one 9V and gets so much life/use from them. Pretty rocky terrain here in Arizona but there are also plenty of sandy washes (I'm thinking gold!) that are flat and easy-to-dig.

One thing I am curious about is whether or not rechargeable batteries can be used in these detectors. I have some EBL 9V 600 mAh batteries and wonder if they're okay to use. If anyone has some experience with them I would like to hear about it.

Looking forward to posting some finds in here.

Doc.

Welcome doc.

From the manual:

"The detector requires a single 9-volt
ALKALINE
battery (battery not included).
Do not use ordinary “Zinc Carbon” batteries
Do not use “Heavy Duty” batteries.
Rechargeable batteries can also be used. If you use rechargeables, we
recommend using a “Nickel Metal Hydride” rechargeable battery".

QDP Manual

I love mine for coin/jewelry hunting. Don't know if it's good for tiny nuggets, that usually requires a higher frequency detector.

reasonably good detector for what I call "Traditional Coin Hunting," but it is definitely not what I would suggest you use for any serious Gold Nugget Hunting.

As Hightone indicated, the NiMH rechargeables might do okay. One thing to check out first, however, is of the battery housing is going to be a good fit in the battery compartment. I have seen some Heavy Duty 9V, and some rechargeable 9V batteries that were a bit over-sized and they either had to be forcefully pressed into position then pried out, or were too thick to allow the battery door/cover to be put back on.

I'd suggest you just use a quality 9V alkaline battery.

Thanks for the responses! I am looking forward to getting out of the house and outdoors for some fun with it, just as soon as it arrives. The good review of the QDP by Hightone is one of the reasons I got it, as well as the price. From what I've read it goes pretty deep.

I'll be sure to check the battery compartment fit. Thanks for reminding me of that, Monte. The 9V batts I have are the Li-Ion, not the Nickle Metal Hydride, so it looks like it's back to good ol' Duracells for me.

I run lipos in my LRpro they are superior batteries. Congrats on the QDpro, good luck and happy hunting.
