GUNNA NEED HELP !!

Get ready to dig deep, might look a small shovel too. Do yourself a favour smash a beer can on it's side, then one one it's top flat. listen to the tone they put out, learn to check for them by picking your coil up and seeing how far you can read them, sure helps on some digging when your getting started with the Minelab. Don't be scared to play with setting too. if all fails turn it off, then restart it holding the power button on it will set it back to factory settings. I never pick up a detector when I bought my, I learned the hard way, then started asking questions on here, a great group of people to help hang out on here.

[size=large]i know exactly where some smashed cans are that are buried and perfect for testing. just hoping i do need a longer shovel. i really like the 7" one i have. saves my back.
as regards falling apart. i was in reference to the top pressure locking device. i guess there's been a good amount of these failing. i guess a piece of metal comes unglued and the upper shaft falls down. i consider that a cheap but serious problem.i have read that it's a simple and easy temp fix. i don't treat my things ruff so i expect them to hold up under my treatment. i'm nowhere near as ruff as i've seen on you tube with some folks. i'd say i'm average based on what i've seen. maybe it's bad news getting blown up. there is a very poitive fibe on this forum about the explorers. one reason i went for it. it seems to enjoy the same kind of following here as the mxt does on it's forum.
i gave some thought to the swingy.haven't persued it but is an obtion. must give the machine a good run first and then address any problems. maybe training wheels.

My SE didn't begin to make sense to me until I switched to Ferrous sounds and multi tones. I tried for almost a year, hunting 4-5 days a week to learn the SE in CO/multi tones a and it whipped my A55 every day... until one day I switched to ferrous sounds/multitones with NO DISC.. an OPEN screen. If you have trouble try that. I also like pitch hold, it is one of the strengths of the Sovereign detectors, it makes it reset the threshold tone to the tone of the last target detected.

If you're like me you'll find theat multi tones in conductive sounds is overwhelming. It is the "fluty" tones you've heard about... a shallow or large target will make a sound like an arpeggio... WAY different from your regular target tone, like a song... it can be confusing. Ferrous sounds doens't do it so much, if at all.. I don't remember right now.

Don't swing too fast and set it so you can understand it and you'll do fine... it is a great machine.

If you use the "smartscreen" quarters and dimes will hit in the upper right corner. deeper ones may run across the top from the middle to right and back and forth. Relics like buttons and other targets that hit more in the middle of the screen will many times make the cursor bounce from upper left to lower right. You'll have to learn how the cursor bounces and use that info along with the tones and numbers to help ID targets. Generally, if the target is there and you go over it with a Pro coil... you'll get some sort of info telling it is there, even if it is a one way hit.... especially in "hunted out" sites... one way hits that are stable from that one direction are worth digging.

You wont be sorry, you may be frustrated for a while but putting in the time is worth it... but I think you know that from all the pics of finds and all the people who work wonders with the SE. Set your mind right, don't give up, and you'll be rewarded.

I always used mine with the Pocket Uniprobe amd I use the ET with the Uniprobe. I like it much better than the SR inline probe. I have an S-1 for my GT and never use it. The P-Uniprobe works much better for me and adds no extra weight. I have a Garrett Pro Pinpointer too, I only use it for backup. I hate the way it detects from the side of the probe. The U/P and the X-1 at least detect from the end of the probe but... different strokes for different folks I reckon.

It wont fall apart. The Explorers are very well made and you probably wont find the weight/balance a problem. I am almost 59 yrs lod and have back problems and I never had a problem with the SE. I use the E-TRAC now and IMO it is a little better because of the slightly different handle angle though some people find the SE more comfortable.

[size=large]J, have severe bursitis in both shoulders and arthritis in my hips and neck. various other problems are a dislocated disc in the neck that can't be fixed and arthritis in both hands. i need all the help i can get and the more weight off the machine the better. I've waited almost fifty years to do this and I'll do this mding even if it hurts. so far i really really love this hobby and i haven't even found one silver coin yet.
as for frustrating. raised five kids. whats frustrating?
if anything fails it will be my understanding of something. i did test drive it today in my yard. you really got to go slow with this. didn't test very long seemed the signals were just blips until you pin-pointed. that has to be the dd coil effect. that'll take some gittin use to. that was just page one.
