I took the GTI with the 5x10 Scorcher on yesterday. I hit my favourite spot which has been very lean for finds this year. It's a farmers market site that is only a 15 min walk from home. Over the last 9 months I've only been finding between $1 and $5 after each market, so It's hardly worth doing. There are about 30 store holders and about 5000 folk that frequent this site twice monthly.
I've been interested in seeing what the DD coil can do and have been fairly impressed the target information that you can get out of it while still on the fly. The width of each signal for given notch areas is the key here. I've been having some good success at telling our $1 and $2 coins from screw caps (which are in the same area of disc, as well as in pull tab range in which our 10c coins sit as well as the 5c pieces to a lesser extent. I pulled up 32 targets in total. 25 of them were coins and 7 were junk. 7 10c pieces verses 3 pull tabs, which both come in around 4.5. One of those pull tabs I suspected of being one, but recovered it all the same, just to confirm it. The total for the hunt was $23.91, which is way above what I've been doing lately and it only took 2.5 hours, which is about an hour shorter than what I hunt on this site normally.
I'm not going to say that the Scorcher coil is way better than the imaging coil as yet, as it's way too early to tell as yet, but the early signs are looking promising. it'll take a lot more consistent performances before I can decide that.
One other major advantage has been the weight. With the scorcher coil on and the battery pack hip mounted, the 1500 weighs only 1.4kgs (3.1 pounds)! It's almost as light as the Ace and relatively well balanced; unlike when you have the imaging coil on with the battery pack off. I'll see if I can get an after market cable to hook up the battery pack so that I have a more comfortably mounted battery pack.
