Had to clear my mind today!....

All the stuff going on with the loss of my step dad makes ones mind stress out! Needed some de-stress medicine so I went for a short dig. I went over to a place I have been hitting off and on. Here are the finds - a 1940 merc, 5 wheats, two WWI eagle buttons, a disabled vets tag, a 1940 nickel, a harmonica reed, a doo-dad, and a mask pendant that was from an earlier hunt there.

Here are the WWI eagle buttons and the vets tag. Neat to find them in the same hunt. The buttons were both in the driveway about 10 feet apart.

After I got home and cleaned my finds a buddy called me who knew I was stressing out and said I have a site come dig with me, so I did!
It was an old school site in the woods, the iron was masking many targets, so after an hour we gave up with only a few finds to show. here is my best keeper from there, This is a Knocker button. I have found a couple of these before and a train guy told me that the knocker was the man who went along the locomotive and used a club to knock on different parts of the train to tell what needed tightened etc....

I also got this interesting find. It has two frogs on it. One is holding an umbrella. It is silver plated, and the other side is the same.

Then we left and went a looking for a new site. I spotted a place where I knew there had to have been an old house many years ogo. There was a windmill, a huge evergreen, and a pile of foundation stones. After securing permission we got started! See the rest of the story below!

Glad you were able to get away for a little while, Mike. And you got a few cool finds there! Still praying for you...

Started detecting this site. The top had been bulldozed, but the grass was high so the finds were mostly shallow. First target an 1883 Indian! Next target a 1912 wheat! Looked good so far! Ended up with a lantern top, and another wheat, a nice 1879 Indian, a thimble, and a neat little bottle. Some of the other items in the pic were from the other spots.

These two both have full Liberties! Need to clean some more dirt off still.

Then the good Lord blessed us with an awesome sight to end the hunt. Then my friend took my out for dinner to close the evening. Talk about a great stress reliever! Thank you Lord!

Glad you could get out and do some :detecting: and with a friend....nice finds also! I hope your stress is over with and I know what you mean, as Cliff is back in the hospital for an overnight stay....Will tell more about it tomorrow, if I am able to do so! God Bless! Betty

great digs, great pics, looks and sounds like you had a great day

I remember those clearly. Around the 1960 era, the D,A,V, sold license plate number tags....the other side of that would have had a license plate number on it if it were all intact. The D.A.V. sold these as a money maker and it was a good service project. The idea was to sell you one of these with your car license plate number on it and when you got it in the mail...yes they had your address to mail it and also to know where to send it if dropped in the mail. So here you have your car keys with this tag on it. You lose the keys, someone finds it and drops it in the mail. The D.A.V. guaranteed payment of shipping to them. They in turn looked up the license number on the tag and found your name and where you live and they mailed them back to you.

Those were good things. If you stopped at a hotel they always asked for your license plate number and there it was in your hand. That is a cool find Mike. My Mom had one on her key ring when I was a kid and saw her order the thing and was proud to carry it as she not only benefited from it but also she supported the Disabled Veterans.

Congrats on the finds Mike.

Thanks for the heads up about the additional pictures. The thingie with the frogs on it is unusual! Never seen anything like it before. The pictures of the sunset are AWESOME! What kind of camera do you have? I would like to get more involved in taking pictures but never seem to find the time to devote to it. I have a big ol' windmill at the edge of my front yard. We don't use it for anything  but it IS fully functional. Tim had always wanted one (for some reason), and heard of a man in Ohio (I think) who sells them, mainly to the Amish. Got in touch with him and he shipped one out to us. Tim built the tower and then assembled the top part and set it on the tower. We've had it for about 18-20 years now. Tim climbs up there once a year and changes the oil in it to keep it working properly.

I thought it was an unusual item also! Interesting to say the least.
I use a Sony H-7 camera. Love it! It has a super zoom. I am a big fan of Sony stuff!

Mike--Great hunting. Love the Merc. The license plate tag brought back memories of my dad. He used to get those every year with the license plate number on the front. I may still have some of his old ones in my lock box. I can't remeber a year when I was growing up that he didn't have one or two of those. I think they sent them two or three to a package. Thanks for posting your finds and bringing back some fond memories.

Mental breaks are good for people who are going through situations like yours!

God Bless,

J.
