Well, besides getting up this morning and looking forward to the urology appointment downstate in Saginaw, I figured this was going to be a bummed out birthday....like pretty much all the rest I have had all my life...no gifts, no party, nothing other than looking forward to going to the VA and getting travel pay...fills our tank and gives us a little extra.
I had an interview yesterday and knew tomorrow I and everyone else who applied would have a meeting - all day long...but that didn't mean any of us would be hired. As we travelled down the expressway on the way to Saginaw my cell phone rang. The woman on the other end Karla from the place I applied yesterday said "We have decided we want to hire you" I said Thank you Karla. She reminded me of the meeting tomorrow and then I hung up. Sherry looked puzzled as that was a name she had never heard before. I said "Oh Karla? Oh she is just the one from (I said the place name) that said I AM HIRED!!!! Sherry was so thrilled. I mean no income has been stressing her alot and in turn she has added to my stress.
What a wonderful birthday gift from our Heavenly Father!!! Thank you God. The position is a worker at a care center for the physically and mentally handicapped people. There are 3 facilities...one a half hour away and two (one for men and one for women) right here in Houghton Lake....within a mile of where I live. Won't cost all my paychecks to cover gas costs to get to work....God had that worked out too!!!
Everything I have done since high school all seemed to come together and meshed into being qualified for this position. God has been 'prepping me' for this all my life. I was asked about days off and said Sundays mornings would be nice to have off as my family are Christians and my wife plays the music for the church so she needs to be there. They said that the clients don't have a church of their own and we have no minister so if you would like to take some of the people with you to church that would be fine. I would not only get to church but use their van to bring people to the church (and hopefully to Christ) on a Sunday I would have to work and Sherry could drive herself in our van. Again, God had this worked out before hand.
There are other things like taking clients to their appointments, taking them out to dinner or lunch (the company pays for my meal as well) and to movies...and the company pays my way in too. I will also get free training in Basic First Aid and CPR and other training at the expense of the company. The facility I will be working at has 6 clients right now and each has physical handicaps....loss of arm, foot, leg, etc, I will help them in their daily needs, make beds, clean up, make meals for them, etc.
There is medical coverage after 90 days, other benefits too and it is full time - not part time. I could even get more than 40 hours in some times.
There is more I know I am forgetting but God has this all worked out and He must have just decided I needed a GOOD birthday present. He gives GOOD gifts.
Also, another good news thing for this day....my prostate is fine and don't have to see the urologist until this time next year.
We also got to spend the whole day with Leelan and he was such a character today. He put smiles on the faces of many Veterans at the VA Hospital.
8 more minutes and I won't be just 60. Be 60 and a day
We did also celebrate the birthday and the job at a restaurant (with the excess from the travel pay after paying for a tank of gas).
Oh yeah....Got to visit with one of my sisters who I have not seen in several years as well. She lives in Saginaw...just a few miles from the VA Hospital. And getting information on how to file a disability claim with the VA for PTSD and for disabilities associated with Agent Orange poisoning. Hope I can get the disablility(ies) I should have gotten for the past 30 years.
Glory to God!!!!!!!
