Harbor Freight $15 Centech Pinpointer - Anyone know anything about it?

I recently purchased this $15 hand held metal detector (i think intended for detecting wall studs and the sort) manufactured by Centech...I learned about it by simply doing a google search with: "cheap pin-pointer"...this yielded some metal detecting blog entries which spoke of this $15 unit sold by the Harbor Freight company...I was wondering if anyone had heard any feedback about it?..I have a $5 off promotion code if anyone is interested as well...Happy hunting!..

I've got a few of them and have used one the last trip out detecting. It works great! I also have sued an Automax and a White's Bullseye II, the CenTech seems to be a bit more sensitive and works better for me.Then there's the price, it can't be beat :)

and help support the Chinese economy to boot. I find it hard to believe that thing is any good - either that or the Whites that guy compared it to is junk ( which I've heard). If you want quality get the Vibra-Probe - best unit out there.

It looks almost exactly like a bullseye, but with a sens knob - the light is even the same. You can get a coin at about 1.5 inches. The bullseye I tried you almost had to touch it. Heck, even if it breaks, you can replace it 7 times before you get to bullseye level :)

Competition is good.

MD in the world.Could blow mercs out of the ground with a single swing. You have to ask yourself one question punk...Do I need the Sunray X1 probe? Well do you punk.
Only a little more than a Vibra Probe but like shining a beacon into the dark.Just my humble opinion.GR

I bought one three weeks ago. I like it, and am not afraid of breaking it. It is as sensitive as any other pinpointer I have used previously. It has a neat little LED light that shines at the pointer tip.

I bought it and I use it all the time , I think it works great and I don't worry if it breaks at $15 a shot.
I have only had one of those and have beat the crap out of it. Its the cheapest way to go. It has also
helped me to find 475 coins and two rings.

Bought one of them some time ago at Harbor freight. It was after I visited a detector store and messed with some of the brands out there. I was able to air test some coins in side and then went to harbor freight and did the same. It was just as good! Bought one for 13.00. Could be the same insides as the expensive ones. walks like a duck-talks like a duck. Just different outside and much less expensive. I recall many years ago that buying the same part for a chevy Corvette was a lot more than if you bought it for a Nova cheapie, no difference, just in price. You can buy a nail detector or a high class "Pinpointer" I think they are really the same. So, I do think that the Sun Ray is the best for the Explorer, but until I can save enough for it the centech is the way to go. Remember, as far as the makers are concerned the brand they sell is always the best. It's up to us to figure out whats the truth. That's why we have this forum!
