I can't help with your question, as mine won't be here until Tuesday. I did talk to a very experienced gentleman that told me the machine will drive you crazy for the first week or two. He said to stay with it, read and re-read the manual....don't give up.....it is a great machine. Hope that helps.
Quite frankly, the F 75 is not that hard to learn. "Walk" with it first for several hours in the factory pre-set modes and get a good feel for what all it is telling you. Dig a variety of targets and try the tone settings that are available. Because it is so sensitive, it does tell you everything that is under the coil. And the hotter you run it, higher sen. and less disc., the more of whats in the ground you are going to hear. That is good, though. In time, you will be able to determine a good target that is nestled next to or under a piece of trash, that a good many other detectors can't. It has great depth, but IMHO, the F 75's strength lies in getting good targets from out of trashy spots. And, a goodly number of good targets still remain hidden within the trash. Are you guys getting the F75 or the new Special Edition (which is the same as the LTD)? As far as the LTD I can tell you I started with a disc or 21 and sensitivity at 50 for the first couple weeks then started moving into more sensitive settings. It worked for me and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it in no time, don't give up when the noise starts, turn the disc up and the sensitivity down until you are comfortable.
Also if you don't already do so, be sure to follow the forum on Tom Dankowski's website it is a great source of Fisher information. If you are getting the SE or the LTD be sure to go to page 11 of the forum and read the thread titled "Rcpt Ack of F75 LTD prototype".

Dave, I am getting the 'regular' F75 without the higher gain and new processor. The folks that are having to wait a while are getting the newer LTD version that was not in stock in most places. I understand that First Texas (I think that is the manufacturer's name) has recently got a part they needed and will be shipping the LTD's very soon. Thanks for the heads-up on the website, will check that out, for sure.
I got the f-75 back in may. It's not hard to learn, just read your users manual a few times front to back. I started out with the factory settings right away and found silver on my first night. I would venture to say you have to hunt with it at least 10 hours before you should change any of the settings. When you get more comfortable with it and identify what shows up as what-start setting the sensitivity higher a little each day you go out so you can separate what is trash and what is not. As far as the disc and notching-it just depends on what you're after. as far as old finds-I've already found 10 mercs, 2 barber halves, 1 franklin half, 100s of wheat pennies, and a 53 seated liberty quarter-theres a lot out there waiting to be discovered. Dig EVERYTHING to begin with so you know what to avoid and what to dig man

It isn't hard to learn if you decidein advance that you are going to learn it. If you are coming to it from something like a Sovereign or a Tejon that is a quiet machine then you better be prepared for something different. Minelabs have musical tones compared to the F75 or T2. The F75 has brash tones IMO and some people confuse all the F's signals with EMI or chatter. Some places it may seem like it is unstable but usually it is just picking up every little piece of metal and iron in the ground. Be sure the coil cable is tight at the box or it will chatter.
I'd suggest that you start off where ever you go to hunt in AM mode just to get a feel for what the real ground conditions are... just how much metal and mineral there is in the ground. Then switch over to disc. Start off with the sens at 60 and the disc at about 15 and 2F tones. Then move to lower disc and/or more tones. You just have to get used to it, that''s all. Be prepared for something different and stick with it. If it is the original F75 you need to swing it a bit fast, like one second per swing. Don't try to "wiggle" over targets to get an ID, swing completely over them even if there are other targets close for the best ID... you'll find that some tone settings ID better than others and JE will chatter (as will most other high gain settings) until you lower the coil to the ground and begin to swing.
Main thing though... just make up your mind beforehand that you are going to master it and it will be no problem. It is a good machine.

Matthias, I am in Upper Dauphin County, originally from Schuylkill (yep, I'm a Skook). I have family in Luzerne county and I also have customers up there, I'm in your area every other Wednesday, Hazleton and Freeland that is. We have a group of guys from various parts of Schuylkill county that we hunt with and many times we are up toward your area. Let us know when you get your gear, maybe we can hook up.
JBow, the one thing I have not done yet is play with the AM too much. My primary question is this; does AM do something that 0 disc does not? I kinda feel like running AM is like running 0 disc without tones........am I wrong? I learned early on that the LTD was a different animal than any I had ever used before!! I don't think I'll ever look back though, every trip I think I learn a few more of her "words" and what she's telling me.

I don't normally push youtube but check out nuggetnoggin.this young man runs an f70, f75 and he runs it hot! He tells what the vdi is as he goes but the best thing is when he sits the machine down to dig.... they chatter like a weed eater at idle! Good stuff for new f75 users.

Fishers traditionally always run a bit hot. They were that way 30 years ago. My late buddy was a Fisher man, through and through, and on all his machines through the years he had to back off the sensitivity a bit to get a little peace and quiet. Even my old 1260X would start to chatter if you ran the sensitivity too high. They just make a very sensitive machine. I too have seen videos using the new F75s and I have heard chatter in some of them. Does not surprise me. Comes with the territory.

Unfortunately most of the gold jewelry I've found has been smaller ~2 gram 14K rings, and they lock on around 22, BUT I also found a 24K mens signet ring, and it locked on as a zinc penny. I was at an old park, working my way around a huge old tree, when it hit, and I normally don't dig zinc pennies, but I thought being that it's an old park, it might be an Indian and it sounded really good (solid lock, nice tone) so I dug and out popped this beauty:
