Have an E-Trac question about depth in discriminate and pin point mode...

On my trip to Massachusetts the depth meter pretty well agreed with whatever the first readout I got in the factory coin program and when I flipped it over to pinpoint. If it was 7 inches in discriminate it was 7 inches in pin point. Tonight I put a custom program in that basically set the lower half of the screen blacked out and everything on top of that open. When I went to the test garden in the back yard and found a 5 inch deep penny the depth changed to 2 inches. I went to another deeper target (6 inches) and once again when I went to pin point it read 2 inches. What's up with this?

Thanks.. Guvner..

Guvner, did you go back to factory settings and get the same thing? Did you load a mode or pattern?

I believe "not certain" but a mode will change some settings on you. A pattern doesn't.

Anyone else notice a discrepancy?

That setting will effect both the Depth Reading and the actual depth that the machine detects targets. Possibly and I am not sure about this but the Trash Density and Ground Settings may also effect the depth meter. Deep definitely effects the reading as I found out when experimenting with different settings on the Beach. Some of the Modes turn Deep "On" by default while others turn it "Off".

A difference in the depth reading between Pinpoint and Discriminate may be a function of which Pinpoint Mode you are in. I have never really looked at the depth meter while in the PP Mode. I just listened to the sound and watched the two bars get closer to the center diamond. WHen I get mine back I will compare the depth readings in Disc vs PP.

Is the ground sanitized? It could be hitting some trash or mineral with the target when you switch to pinpoint. Does it lose discrimination in pinpoint, i'm not sure? If it goes to AM when you use pinpoint that could do it.

Just kidding. I have noticed the same thing once in a while and part of the time in pinpoint it was showing a shallower target close to desired target that was being disc. out in disc. mode. With your custom program with a lot less disc it will do the same thing as well.

But actually I'm wondering if you're right.. :D

See ya... G..

That's one of the things that's supposed to be fixed on the e-Trac, right?

Was paying a lot of attention today on the SE to see if I could correlate how the pinpoint mode depth meter reads but couldn't seem to get any consistency with what the size or depth of the target was.

See any difference in depth readings in the different pinpoint modes? (Wondering if the SE-correlate on the e-Trac has the same issue.)
