Wet and Dry

I understand that every now and then your toes will be stepped on. What I want to know is....Why they shut down the topic (thread) and we can't reply anymore? What was soooo wrong that the forum (mediators) reprimanded someone enough to leave? I wonder if I will be disciplined for asking these questions to the water and beach community? The other thing about this forum that I have a problem with is.... you can't say the name of a product that you use on this forum unless it's sponsors this site. I have call some of the sponsors and they tell me they don't ship to Canada. We have products up here that hunters can use but we can't tell about them, cause that not right with the forum rules. Really now , I thought this was to better our hobby and bring people closer together. Just me wondering out loud. Wet & Dry

No, this is a commercial site. The owners wont allow anyone to lessen thier income by listing competitors products or websites. Expect this thread to dissapear quickly also.

We all use and like different products. Discussion and mention of any product that may help us in the pursuit of our hobby should be allowed.

To start with, no one that has anything to do with running this forum, said anything to Max causing his leaving. Why he left, you will have to ask him. It's a mystery to us also.

This is a commercial site. Finds not going to allow anyone to post product for sale if they are not sponsors, and certainly if it's a product that they, (the sponsors), carry for sale.

Overall, Finds is a very lenient on what it allows on it's forum pages. We do our best not to have to delete anything. Sometime we just don't have any choice. We have here about 35,000 registered members. We have a exceptional large non-member viewer participation here at Finds. It's not uncommon to see 3,000 or 4,000 on at the same time. The first of this month we were having 6,000 at a time. I'm mentioning this so you will have some idea of the logistics we have to deal with on a daily basis.

See if we can put this to bed ??

Have a Merry Christmas.

Mr. Bill

Nothing personal meant here with this answer. :)

Discussion and mentioning a product is not the problem. Promoting the sale of it from non sponsors is.

As far as I know, the only way I can find out who is a bona fide sponsor is through the banners or posts in the classifieds. Is there a list?

No. One will have to go to the other forum pages here at Finds, and view the banners. Not only are they at the top of the Forum pages, but there different on the individual post.

Merry Christmas
Mr. Bill

That is perfectly understandable. That should be done in a PM, if at all. If sponsors are paying they certainly should get consideration.

If I rented a billboard along the highway and someone came and stuck a sign on the billboard telling of another, similar business with cheaper prices... I would not be happy... it is the same thing.

I wish that you would post more... I miss your posts.

My personal opinion with some of the
rules forums have are "silly" ....!!

When moderators say that you can't mention other
brands ...., Competition is always better for the consumer.

Not mentioning another brand does not protect a sponsor
or shield them from learning about other brands.

Most buyers are going to "Google Search" and find out about
other brands, find other forums, and do a little due diligence.

When companies or sponsors fear a mention of other brands
they come from a position of weakness. I worked at a very
large mail order company years ago and we even gave callers
the numbers to our competition so they could shop and compare.

This was a strength of the company I worked for. They were so
confident in what they offered that people would buy from them
anyway ....no matter where else they looked.

Gee.... what would happen if our television networks operated this
way?

Besides, these forums list several sponsors with click able links
to their sites. Do these rules think they are really hiding others
from finding out about other products.

Damned if you do , damned if you don't ......I asked in another forum here on finds to put a sticky up of all the forum sponsors so we knew who to reccomend or NOT reccomend if they weren't a sponsor .....If they did this for the Sponsors, then we as members . and they as sponsors would be better served ..... When I asked the same question , nobody came on to give me an answer .....?????????.....Jim

Well, I've thought about this issue many times.----It would be really nice to have an (obvious) "list" of forum sponsors.---One we could just look at and know immediately who is a sponsor of this great forum.---Might help forum sponsors sales even!---------Del

I don't know GDMax but there is also another consideration here:

If this forum has over 35,000 members, many of them will live outside the continental US (me included - I live in the land of VERY old finds, England).

My point is that as I live outside the States, I am extremely unlikely to use any of the sponsored links as the cost of shipping, import tax and VAT (similar to tax that US citizens pay in certain states and currently running at 20% of total purchase price) would make any purchase prohibitively expensive.

I'm sure this will apply to many other 'foreigners' using this forum.

Happy new year by the way :)
