Hello everyone. New to forum.

Hello to everyone..... I'm new to the forum, but not new to detecting. I started back in the mid 70's detecting with my father as a teenager. I just purchased an E-Trac and am looking forward to using it. It should have been here by now, but the snow threw a wrench into that. While I've been waiting for the new machine to arrive, I've read the E-Trac owners manual, looked at tons of video's and read just about every post I could find. I figured it's going to be a while before the show melts and the ground thaws, so I should use the time to get know my new machine.

I hope to meet up with some fellow MDer's from the area to do some detecting once the weather warms up. So, if you live in the Sterling, Va area (Northern Va) and would be interested in doing some detecting on the weekends, just give me a shout.

By the way, this is a GREAT forum. I've really enjoyed reading all the posts from the various forums and gaining insights on other techniques and machines.

Cheers...

Welcome, I am new to the E-Trac forum myself and there are some great folks here on this forum and they are very helpful to us who are swinging an E-Trac for the first time. Good luck and hope it arrives soon. HH - Randy

Hi Steve,

Looking forward to hearing about and seeing the results of your detecting adventures. What are some of the more interesting things you've found the last 30 yrs. of detecting?

Take care,

NebTrac

Hello NebTrac,

Living where I do in Virginia, I get to do a lot of Civil War relic detecting. Over the years, I've found numerous bullets (three ringers, two ringers, round balls, minie balls, etc.), artillery shell fragments (no intact shells ), union spur with intact rowel, several breast plates from both sides, and various utilitarian artifacts from Civil War encampments. The most interesting Civil War artifact that I found, was a completely intact oil lamp wick mechanism that I recovered from a fallen tree. The tree had grown around the lamp and I had to cut and carve the tree away to get to it.

Over the years, I have found some nice silver coins and early copper coins. No gold coins to my credit, yet. My favorite silver coin that I found was a 1889 Liberty Seated Dime and my favorite copper was a 1816 Coronet Large One Cent (Matron Head). I've done way more Civil War detecting then coin, but with the E-Trac, I plan on going after silver (and hopefully gold) a lot more then what I have in the past.

On the rare occasions that I got to do some beach detecting, I have found a couple rings (silver and gold), but nothing really worth a lot of $$$ and lots of clad coins. I'm going to the beach in July on vacation and looking forward to using the E-Trac to see what I find. My son will be detecting with me using my Whites M6, so hopefully between the two of us, we'll find something of interest.

Cannot wait until the weather warms up.

jojames2. I sincerely hope you are not offended by this, but you truly are a person of few words. I just happened to look up and see you registered 5 years ago and this was your first post. Forgive me, but I just found that extraordinary.

Take care,

NebTrac
