Help! considering an Etrac and want to know if the Explorer SE is as good, why or why not?

Would like some honest feedback on some of you guys that have used both. I just ordered Andy's book so at least I can see some of how they are similar and different. I have only used the Explorer xs model since they came out and thinking about upgrading.

Well, this is the E-trac forum you know! Anyway, They are both awesome detectors. The E-trac is newer. If you have the money then why not buy the newer machine?

I really think you could take an SE Pro and an E-Trac and they would run neck and neck. The E-Trac has some different features and settings. I like the the 12 line on the E-Trac and think that feature makes it easy for someone that has never used a Minelab to be able to pick it up and learn it very quickly with just factory settings. The E-Trac is what I have and it is very well balanced and ergonomically comfortable to swing.

It is a personnel choice. I had the XS, E-II, but not the SE. I went to the Etrac and never looked back. That is my opinion. HH...Jesse.

I have both. Performance - they are the same from my perspective as long as you have the Pro coil.

You can configure the E-Trac audio tones to almost match the Explorer tones, so that's not an issue.

E-Trac displays and translations are different. They are not difficult to learn, but they are different.

The E-Trac handle is better for your wrist and arm, as the handle angle is different. Takes a little bit to get used to it.

E-Trac has a better pinpointer.

I like the way the quick mask set-up works on the E-Trac better than the iron mask on the SE.

If you read Andy's book, then you can see some of the differences in set-up, features and capabilities.

Both are great machines. I have both and have used the both. My SE is now my back-up unit.

I love the stabilty of the E-trac much more and the data it provides such as the actual sensitivity it is running at in Semi-auto.

You can't go wrong with either one but I do like the E-trac better.

I had an Explorer XS for nearly 10 years. After researching the forum and reading Andy's book, I decided to go with the E-trac. Both excellent machines. Quick mask, expanded screen, updated software, lighter, a little more ergonomic all help my day be more productive. A lot that have both seem to prefer the E-trac.
