Help Me Choose 2 New Coils And I will Give You A Complete Review/Feedback

Alright, I have made my decision. I will order the 6x8 and 12x15 SEF coils. It seems these are the two winners although the other options also would have been very interesting. Maybe I will save these for a future review. Now I will just need to shop around and see where I can get the best deal and I will order them ASAP. I noticed that fleebay has brand new ones for under $200 shipped from the UK, that would be a pretty good deal, however, I like to stay away from Fleebay as much as I can. Either way, I will find a place to order them from (if a forum sponsor is reading this send me a pm if you can get me both of these please) and then I will get back you within the next couple of weeks (weather permitting) to give you the review which I promised. Thank you all for your help, I truly appreciate it. HH and talk soon. -Marc

I believe Kellyco is the US distributor for them.

Yes I believe that's true and I always try to stick to the "right" place to get things from but I couldn't help noticing that they were half price brand new on xbay. The shop on xbay seems legit as they have thousands of sales with positive feedback. On xbay they want $99 for a brand new, in the box 6x8. I also have an axe to grind with kellyco because I have purchased 3 detectors from them and when I tried to cash in on a voucher that I received with one of my detectors, they didn't honor the voucher and didn't remember giving them out. They said it must have been a promotional minelab voucher that came with the machine at the time and wouldn't let me use it. Not a big deal, but annoying as other shops I have dealt with don't operate that way. I used to live just down the road from kellyco and was in there often enough where you would think this kind of thing wouldn't happen. No offense to kellyco, once I get over being annoyed I will be back shopping there. I bought 2 anderson shafts from them recently for my excals but I don't know if my coil order will be heading that way for now. Thanks everyone for your input and HH -Marc

Hey, we must have been near each other. I'm in Sanford and have a business in Winter Garden.

Bummer about Kellyco, they've always treated me pretty good. Sometimes being bigger can be a problem with personal service I guess.

If the Ebay seller you are talking about is Advark, you should know that they and Kellyco are the same company. I'm not exactly sure why they operate under two different names, but they have been for quite some time.

As far as I know Kellyco (Ardvark) is the only U.S distributor of the SEF coils, and last I heard the 6x8" coils are on backorder (The $99 6x8 on Ebay appears to be for the Ace 250). The seller in the U.K may be the only choice for a new one at the moment. I have all three SEF coils for the E-Trac and they are very good coils. The larger two are a bit heavy compared to the Pro coil, but they are much more durable and IMO a bit quieter as well.

I had Sef 8x9 and I dont understand why people like this coil  not that its very bad, but in my opinion nothing special, I think its very similar to minelab 8 and not better separation than original bigger size Pro coil. sef minuses not the best shape with spokes to hunt in woods. but its only my opinion :starwars:
MHirschmann if you will not get good price on new, buy second hand, coil is not so easy to brake.

Hi Stasys, I can't help but to ask you what you would do. I have read very many of your posts and couldn't help noticing that you seem to know a tremendous amount about coils. Since you don't seem to be an SEF fan, which 2 would you choose? As I have stated, I currently have an 8 inch minelab fbs, a 4.5x7 dd excellerator and the stock pro coils. I am looking to try two new coils, one BIG and one small/medium. which two would you take if it could be any two out there? I appreciate your input and I of course appreciate the input of every/anyone else out there. I haven't ordered the coils yet. I have been playing with the idea of changing the 12x15 SEF to the 12x13 Nel Tornado. Seems quite a few forum members are having good luck with the Nel. Still open to suggestions. Snow has fallen here in MN and so the test will have to wait a few weeks until I can travel to ground that isn't frozen. That opens the poll back up and gives me more time to choose the 2 true winners once I get more input. Everything is pretty close right now. Thanks for all the help everyone, I owe you big time. Merry Christmas and HH -Marc

SEF 12x15 = 7
SEF 6x8 = 8
Coiltek Joey = 1
Sunray x-12 = 3
12x13 nel = 6
Sharpshooter 9.5x5.5 = 3
Coiltek 15 WOT = 2
SEF 10x12 = 1

One thing I find interesting is that I have heard so many good things about Sunray coils but I haven't had many votes for them. Rather interesting. I am very interested in the NEL at this point as it was my backup idea for the 12x15 SEF and it seems that more people are wondering about the NEL than the SEF, although more people have recommended the SEF over the NEL. Interesting stuff....Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas

NEL 12x13 and the NEL 12x13. Does that count as two votes for the NEL 12x13? I'm dying to see some more info on this coil!

Thanks for good words MHirschmann , I think if you have small Minelab 8 and excelerator, go for bigger coils. I suggest try NEIL because its new for most FBS detectors users and SEF 12x15 or Coiltek WOT. Would be more right to test the same caliber and size coils on the same targets to see what pluses or minuses, maybe even to film for later comparison what is the different. some sort mirror Video-one SEF one NEIL. :geek:

wow, so I have been trying to find a 12x13 NEL to order. I may be ignorant but I totally didn't realize that they all come from the Ukraine and take about 3 months to get a hold of. Anyone on here know a faster way to get one? Would appreciate some help with this one. I've checked everywhere and can't seem to find one. Thanks and I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. -Marc

Only place I have seen them for sale is Ebay.

Yes, That's the only place where I have found them as well. It says, however, that I would not receive it before the end of February or the beginning of March. That seems like an awful long time. If thats the only place to get one then that's what I will do but it would be great if I could get one more quickly. Thanks for your help as usual. -Marc

Another question, would you take the 15x18 SEF or the 12x15 SEF? Im thinking about getting both the large SEF and the NEL at this point given that it seems to take 15 lifetimes to get the NEL. Does anyone know hoe much heavier the 15x18 is and if there are any advantages that would make it worth it? Thanks. -Marc

I have the 8x6 sef and love it. I would also suggest the 12x13 nel. See this post. He later said he's using a tornado nel coil.
