i have a new safari and was wondering whats the difference between, the explorer---se-----e.-trac----vs. safari, besides the faster processor?thank you.is the safari just as deep with the same coil?
CJM

Hello CJM I own a Quattro witch is the same as the Safari, but I have never use an Explorer or E-Trac. From what I have learned the Explorers and E-Tracs give you more information about the targets in the ground. They have a dual discrimination TID system that gives you ferrous and conductive numbers. In theory the lower the ferrous number and higher the conductive number you have a greater chance of finding a coin. What I read most of the Explorer and E-Trac users go by the sound for the deeper target not the TID anyways, and this is something Minelab suggest you do. This is same suggestion for Quattro/Safari. As for the recovery speed some say they are faster and some they are not, so I don't know about that. My gut feeling on this is that the recovery speed is about the same for all 3 detectors. All I know is that people on the Explorer and E-Trac forums suggest you slow go while using these detectors. The same suggestion that people give for Quattro/Safari users. As for how depth I believe the Safari will go as deep as an Explorer or E-Trac. Another thing I heard is that an E-Trac is easier to use right out of the box then the Explorer and Safari.

John and I must be reading the same information because I agree with everything he has said. I might add however that yesterday I spoke with a friend who happens to be a dealer - I was asking about upgrading to either the E-trac or Explorer. His advice was to hold off for now if speed was what I wanted because both the Explorer and the E-trac were much slower than he personally liked to swing. He indicated to me that there was hardly any difference between them and the Safari in that regard. So, I took his advice and for the time being I will stay with my Safari.

Yep, only thing I think I might buy is a new coil.

I have been thinking about buying either a 6" DD EXcelerator EQ 2 Pro Search Coil or the 8x6" SEF (Butterfly) Search Coil. I haven't made up my mind yet. I would use one of these for searching in trashy areas for better target separation.

The 6x8 coil is a nice compliment to the stock coil. I would highly recommend the Sunray probe as well. You cannot begin to believe how efficient you will become at recovering items...
